Potential challenges: : House soiling,On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration

Potential challenges comments:: House soiling- Prize is reported to be is reported to be partially house trained. He will need guidance and consistency to learn to eliminate outside. We recommend crate training (the crate must be made positive and never used as a punishment), frequent walks, rewards for eliminating outside (treats, toys, games), a consistent feeding schedule, and careful monitoring when inside. Accidents should never be punished as it can damage the human-dog relationship and is likely to make the problem worse. Please see the handout on House soiling. On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration- Prize prior owners report that he displays on-leash reactivity when strangers approach him on lead, we have not seen this behavior at the care center, but if this behavior appears in his future home we recommend positive reinforcement, reward-based training to teach him to look at you rather than other dogs. We recommend a front clip harness or head halter to help manage this behavior. Please see handout on On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration.
