Animal Profile

Scallion

Hello, my name is Scallion. My animal id is #82815. I am a desexed female torbie cat at the . The shelter thinks I am about 3 years 1 months old.

I came into the shelter as a stray on 11/30/2019.

Reserved

Someone has already placed a deposit on me. I'm no longer available.

Scallion was placed at risk due to behavioral concerns; she has not been able to adjust to the shelter environment and is displaying distant-fearful behavior. she was otherwise healthy and we are recommending placement with an experienced cat adopter.

Let's get to know each other a bit more...

Scallion is a beautiful, emerald green eyed torbie who is curious, but has also been a little overwhelmed during her stay in our care centers. She is looking for a home with a patient, experienced adopter preferably with no children. She would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places.

My medical notes are...

Details on my behavior are...

Behavior Condition: 5. Red

Cat was extremely upset in carrier and vocalizing loudly, and growling anytime someone walked by. Did not attempt to handle.

Basic Information:: Scallion was found outside the BACC shelter as a stray inside a carrier.

KNOWN HISTORY:: Scallion was brought in as a stray, there is no known information on her behavior history in a home environment.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 12/1/19 Crouched in back of kennel, body and face tense. Pupils are dilated. She makes eye contact when her cage cover is lifted and hisses. Uncomfortable and focused on environment. Needs time to adjust. 12/02/19 Crouched in back of kennel, body low and tense. Makes eye contact as I lift the cage cover and hisses, then looks around the room. Not ready for petting - I leave her some treats which she sniffs but doesn’t eat during our interaction. Too focused on me and environment. Needs some time to adjust. 12/04/19 Lying on top of kuranda bed, body and face tense. She vocalizes loudly as the kennel door opens, then leans forward in anticipation for head pets. She allows slow and gentle petting along her head and body while rolling over onto her side and leaning in, then beginning to flick her tail up and down. Scallion enjoys being spoken to and will roll over in response and allows limited petting before showing signs of overstimulation (stress meowing, flattening ears and flicking tail). I attempted clicker training but she was not interested today. Doing better! 12/8/19 Resting upon approach, but slowly lifts her head up and looks out with almond-shaped eyes. She emits a soft meow in response when spoken to and accepts gentle petting, leaning in slightly for cheek rubs. Her overall body posture remains curled up during interaction, but she doesn't seem upset. Has potential to warm up more. 12/10/19 Doing SOOO much better!! During interaction she initially vocalizes as always, but when reaching out to pet her she iwll head butt the assessor, chirp, lean in, roll and knead. She tries to come out of her kennel, and allows the assessor to move her back in. She was interacted with multiple times today in short amounts, and had only gotten overstimulated when pet for a few moments without pauses. She did allow pick up as well. May need a re-eval soon. 12/11/19 Level 2 - ok to remove from socialization list.

ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Energetic

VOCAL:: Talkative

CHARACTER TYPE: : Affectionate,Graceful,Curious

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 2

Behavior Asilomar: H - Healthy

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Although timid and conflicted initially, Scallion has warmed up to her care takers and has adjust to the care center and now displays affectionate and social behavior! She was lying in her litterbox as the assessor approached, ears forward and body relaxed. Scallion leaned towards the front of her kennel when spoken to and vocalized as she stretched one paw forward. Scallion stood up and stepped forward as the kennel door opened, then allowed petting along her head and body while leaning in, raising her tail and continuing to vocalize. Scallion remained calm as she investigated the room from the front of her kennel, then as the assessor lifted her. Scallion interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for cat parents with either an average amount of cat experience or demonstrate a basic understanding of typical cat behavior.
