Angel

Hello, my name is Angel. My animal id is #32246. I am a desexed female brown dog at the . The shelter thinks I am about 2 years 9 months old.

I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 2/13/2019, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- landlord won't allow.

Reserved

Someone has already placed a deposit on me. I'm no longer available.

Angel is at risk due to behavior concerns, New Hope Only determination. Angel's behavior has started to deteriorate in care center and has shown fear based aggression towards other animals and strangers. We recommend that she go to an adult only and single pet environment. Medically there are no concerns at this time.

You may know me from such films as...

Let's get to know each other a bit more...

A volunteer writes: The name Angel suits this caramel-colored beauty quite well. I found her wiggling with excitement in her kennel, and couldn't resist her sweet doe eyes, gentle kisses, and thumping tail. Besides one brief spurt of joy when she broke into a gallop, she walked nicely on the leash, though she was eager to say hello to anyone we passed. When we stopped and sat for a minute, she came and leaned her whole body into me, clearly happy for the love. Now all she needs is a home to give her that love all the time--I guarantee she'll give it right back.

My medical notes are...

The Behavior Department recommends that she be socialized in a more controlled setting until her behavior towards other dogs can be further addressed. 6/25: When off leash at the Care Center, Angel greets a novel male with a slightly tense posture, then mostly avoids further interaction. When a second male dog was brought out, Angel approached him at the gate then lunged and snapped through the gate. 7/13: Angel lunged at the novel male dog when greeting at the gate, so she was muzzle prior to the gate opening. BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only

Behavior Asilomar: TM - Treatable-Manageable

Recommendations:: No children (under 13),No cats,Single-pet home,Recommend no dog parks,Place with a New Hope partner

Recommendations comments:: No cats: Angel is reported to have shown an intense focus on cats(Hard barking, and chasing them)and as a result poses a potential safety risk for cats. She must not go to a home with resident cats or where she may come into contact with cats. Single-pet home/Recommend no dog parks: Due to the concerning behaviors that Angel has shown during playgroup, we feel that Angel should not visit dog parks and be the only resident dog. The Behavior Department recommends that she be socialized in a more controlled setting until her behavior towards other dogs can be further addressed. Reward-based, force-free training can be utilized to help Angel associate dogs with things she enjoys like toys or treats. No children: At the care center, Angel lunged at and ripped the pants of someone she was walking by. For this reason, we recommend an adult only home. Place with a New Hope partner: At the care center, Angel lunged at and ripped the pants of someone she was walking by. The behavior department recommends Angel be placed with a New Hope placement partner who is able to provide an experienced adult-only foster home. A period of decompression is recommended to allow Angel to acclimate comfortably to her new environment; force-free, reward based training only is advised when introducing Angel to new and unfamiliar situations. Consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended for guidance to safely manage/modify any behavior Angel presents with outside of the care centers.

Potential challenges: : Fearful/potential for defensive aggression,On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration

Potential challenges comments:: On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration: At the care center, Angel has been observed to react to other dogs on leash, lunging towards them, barking and growling. She had an incident at the care center where she lunged at and grabbed the pants of a person she was passing by, ripping the pants. Angel may need positive reinforcement, reward based training to teach her to look at you rather than other dogs or other stimuli. Please see the On-Leash Reactivity handout to help manage this behavior. Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: Angel lunged at a person at the care center, grabbing onto his pants, holding on, and ripping them. She displays some fearful behavior but this is the first instance of potential aggression she has displayed. Please see handout on Fearful/potential for defensive aggression.
