BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: Level 1

Behavior Asilomar: H - Healthy

Recommendations:: No young children (under 5)

Recommendations comments:: No young children: Due to the behavior seen in the care center, we feel that Catalina may be intimidated by young children. She needs a slow approach and time to warm up. She should never be forced to interact with new people, and should be allowed to greet and initiate an interaction at her own pace.

Potential challenges: : Fearful

Potential challenges comments:: Fearful: Though observed to be human-social, Catalina may need time to warm up to the handler as she initially presents as a shy dog. She manages her stress well and has not escalated or shown any aggression, but she does need time to warm up to new people. Sh does best with a slow approach, and should be permitted to greet new people at her own pace and to initiate interaction (rather than being approached and pet immediately by a new person) so she has time to adjust and become comfortable before she is handled. She should be spoken to softly and gently.
