Animal Profile

Jack

Hello, my name is Jack. My animal id is #56155. I am a desexed male brown dog at the . The shelter thinks I am about 2 years 3 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a returns on 3/14/2019.

Reserved

Someone has already placed a deposit on me. I'm no longer available.

Jack is at risk, new hope only determination, for behavioral reasons. Jack has shown fearful behavior both in his previous home environment and at the care center. Jack is anxious around strangers and has not allowed for extensive handling, also exhibiting sensitivities to touch. Jack would be best suited for placement with a new hope rescue partner that can provide the necessary behavior modification in a low stress environment. Medically, Jack seems healthy.

He remained wiggly for the intake then allowed counselors to collar him, leash him, and position him for photos before walking him to the dog holding area where he hopped into the kennel on his own.

Behavior Asilomar: TM - Treatable-Manageable

Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner

Recommendations comments:: Jack has displayed fearful behavior at the care center, jumping away from quick movements. In the home he has escalated to biting and grabbing the pants of his owners as well. For these reasons, we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable adult only foster home before placement into a permanent home.

Potential challenges: : House soiling,Fearful/potential for defensive aggression,Kennel presence

Potential challenges comments:: Jack was reported to lunge and bark at strangers in his adopted home, as well as growl and corner the owner. Please see the handout on fearful behavior and defensive aggression. Jack is fearful when being taken out of his kennel, baring teeth and snapping when attempts are made to leash him. While we cannot be certain if this behavior will appear in any other contexts, in highly emotionally charged or stressful environments Jack may show behavior similar to what he is currently demonstrating in her kennel. We recommend potential adopters be comfortable managing this behavior and keeping themselves safe in any similar future situations. Jack was reported to have accidents in his previous home. Please see handout on House Soiling.
