Chase

Hello, my name is Chase. My animal id is #56730. I am a desexed male brown dog at the . The shelter thinks I am about 9 months 3 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 3/10/2019, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- new baby.

Reserved

Someone has already placed a deposit on me. I'm no longer available.

Chase is at risk, new hope only determination, for behavioral reasons. Chase has exhibited a low threshold for arousal and quickly becomes overstimulated and is difficult to redirect. Due to Chase's high energy level and poor impulse control, we are recommending placement with a new hope rescue partner that can provide the necessary behavior modification and reward based training. Medically, Chase was diagnosed with canine infectious respiratory disease complex which is contagious to other animals and will require in home care.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only

Behavior Asilomar: TM - Treatable-Manageable

Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner

Recommendations comments:: Due to the extremely high level of mouthing Chase displays at the care center, we recommend an adult only home. Due to the high level of social hyperarousal (non stop jumping and mouthing with moderate pressure) we recommend Chase be placed with a New Hope placement partner who is able to provide an experienced adult-only foster home. A period of decompression is recommended to allow Chase to acclimate comfortably to his new environment; force-free, reward based training only is advised when introducing Chase to new and unfamiliar situations. Consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended for guidance to safely manage/modify any behavior Chase presents with outside of the care centers.

Potential challenges: : Low threshold for arousal,Basic manners/poor impulse control,Social hyperarousal,Mouthiness/poor bite inhibition,On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration

Potential challenges comments:: Chase jumps up on people and mouths them non stop. While walking, he mouths peoples' feet and arms, applying moderate pressure. It is not easy to distract him from these behaviors. Please see handouts on Basic Manners, Mouthiness, and Arousal. Chase has barked at dogs walking by on leash. Please see handout on On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration.
