Richie

Hello, my name is Richie. My animal id is #74322. I am a desexed male tan dog at the . The shelter thinks I am about 4 years 3 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a aco impound on 8/29/2019.

Someone has already placed a deposit on me. I'm no longer available.

Richie is at risk for medical reasons. Richie was diagnosed with canine infectious respiratory disease complex which is contagious to other animals and will require further care. Behaviorally, Richie quickly becomes overstimulated and would benefit from reward based training.

You may know me from such films as...

Let's get to know each other a bit more...

A volunteer writes: Richie is in for the fun! Playful and energetic, this handsome guy loves to play tug, chase tennis balls and otherwise goof around with his human friends. While taking him out to play, Richie was very respectful with the neighboring dog, his tail going full helicopter mode. Richie could brush up on his leash walking skills, but with a little bit of coaching, he will become as good a leash walker as he is a ball chaser in no time! Richie is not only super handsome and playful, he also loves to get back rubs, belly rubs, and show you how well he knows the sit command, preferably in exchange for a treat. With Richie by your side, heads are turning constantly telling you what a handsome stunner he is. The all around perfect companion, Richie is waiting for you at the Manhattan ACC!

ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Richie so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. However, he is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: Level 2

Behavior Asilomar: TM - Treatable-Manageable

Recommendations:: No young children (under 5),Single-pet home,Recommend no dog parks

Recommendations comments:: No young children: Due to the high level of jumping seen at the care center, we recommend a home without young children. Older children who are comfortable around large, jumpy dogs should have an in-depth interaction prior to adoption. Single pet/no dogs: See DOG-DOG.

Potential challenges: : Basic manners/poor impulse control,On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration

Potential challenges comments:: Basic manners/poor impulse control: Richie jumps up a lot on people in a social manner. Please see handout on Basic Manners. On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration: At the care center, Richie is somewhat reactive on leash, pulling towards dogs and tensing. Please see handout on On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration.
