I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 11/17/2017, with the surrender reason stated as person health - allergies.

Upon intake, Sophia was hissing and growling. Sophia was brought in wrapped in a towel and when I tried to remove the towel from her she began to hiss and growl. Sophia did not allow any handling and responded to any touch or movement with hisses and growls.

Basic Information:: Sophia is 1 year and 9 months old. Sophia is an orange tabby and white domestic long haired female cat. Sophia lived with previous owner for over a year and was adopted from Animal Care Centers. Sophia was surrendered because previous owner's daughter has asthma. Sophia has no injuries or health problems and last saw a vet over a year ago.

Previously lived with:: Sophia previously lived with one adult and one child.

How is this cat around strangers?: Sophia is shy around strangers. Sophia will approach strangers but will not allow to be pet and will keep some distance between them.

How is this cat around children?: Sophia previously lived with a 9 year old girl. Sophia was relaxed and respectful of her and would play with her string toys and wand toys. Sophia liked to rub her body on her leg but would not allow to be picked up.

How is this cat around other cats?: Sophia has not interacted with other cats

How is this cat around dogs?: Sophia has not interacted with dogs.

Behavior Notes: Sophia often scratches furniture but also uses her scratching post. Sophia hisses when given a bath and struggles when having her nails trimmed. Sophia does not like having her brushed coat and will run away when she sees the brush. Sophia also hisses when being picked up or held and meows when being put into a carrier. Sophia has never been disturbed as she sleeps.

For a New Family to Know: Sophia is a mellow, assertive and independent cat. Sophia loves chasing mice toys and playing with balls and string. Sophia is an indoors only cat that was being free-fed Purina dry food. Sophia is litterbox trained and used an uncovered litterbox with Fresh Step cat litter. Sophia had a scratching post made out of rough rope that she liked to use.
