I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 11/26/2017, with the surrender reason stated as person health - allergies.

Onyx is at risk for medical reasons, having been diagnosed with Upper Respiratory Infection, which is contagious to other cats. Behaviorally, Onyx has been assessed as being suitable for most homes.

Recheck post-op neuter: S/O: BARH in kennel - mildly swollen scrotum with a few pieces of kitty litter adhered - no discharge - becomes a little fractious when trying to retrain for exam - removed litter and asked kennel staff to use 'yesterday's news" litter instead A: healing well P: recheck incision, clean if necessary

S/O T: 103.8 wt 14lb -QAR, still has significant nasal congestion, excessive serous nasal discharge bilaterally -not interested in canned or dried food; left in kennel -mm pk -harsh lung sounds bilaterally - unkempt hair coat A URI with severe congestion and anorexia dehdyrated pyrexia P 1. continue with cerenia 2. place IVC at start LRS at 23ml/hr 3. gave mirtazapine 15mg: 1/4 PO once 4. baytril 100mg/ml: 0.31ml IV once daily x 5 days 5. recheck tomorrow

Onyx was loose bodied during intake he let us collar but was trying to get away when we tried to get his picture. He allowed us up to pick him up multiple times and was calm when going into the carrier.

Basic Information:: Onyx is a male black domestic short hair cat that is estimated to be 6 years old. His previous owner got him as a gift from a friend and stayed with them for the last 6 years until a family member developed breathing problems and was unable to be around the cat any longer.

How is this cat around strangers?: Onyx is friendly around strangers he doesn't shy away from strangers that approach him.
How is this cat around children?: Onyx lived with a 1 year old child. The child would chase him around the house and Onyx would play with him.
How is this cat around other cats?: Onyx was not around other cats in his previous home
How is this cat around dogs?: Onyx was not around other dogs in his previous home
Behavior Notes: Onyx tends to scratch at furniture and cardboard boxes. He enjoys being brushed and being picked up and held. Hes isn't bothered by being put into carriers. He does not like people touching his paws or having his nails trimmed.

For a New Family to Know: Onyx is a playful cat that likes to play somewhat rough with adults and calmly with children. He enjoys playing in cardboard boxes and balls with bells in them. Onyx tends to follow people around the house and is used to being an indoor cat but does like to run outside and pop right back in. He eats dry food only and likes to sleep in bed with someone. He is very litter box trained and uses an uncovered litter box. Onyx tends to scratch at furniture and does like using rope scratching posts.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: At the front on approach, soft posture, eyes dilated. Started meowing loudly and rubbing against the bars. Stayed at the front when door opened, leaned and arched enthusiastically into pets.
