I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 2/8/2019, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- landlord won't allow.

Chocolate is at risk due to being diagnosed with Canine Infection Respiratory Disease Complex and will likely require home rest and a series of antibiotics for up to 14 days. This is a contagious illness to other dogs. Chocolate has also displayed some resource guarding issues, he got a level 2 on his behavior assessment. we are recommending placement in an adult only home with an experienced dog adopter.

Upon intake Chocolate was pulling on leash and very attentive to noises he heard outside the room. He was docile for the most part and sat on command for treats but wasn't interested. He scanned negative for a microchip and allowed all handling.

Basic Information:: Chocolate is a 4 year old unaltered male medium mix breed. He was a stray according to owner when he was given to him 4 years ago as a puppy. Owner believes Chocolate is healthy and doesn't have behavior concerns. Owner surrenders due to new landlord.

Previously lived with:: Three adults and three children

How is this dog around strangers?: Owner stated Chocolate is very friendly towards strangers however he is very strong and can be rough but he just wants to play.

How is this dog around children?: Chocolate lived with children ages 16,11 and 7 years old. Owner stated he is relaxed and playful with them.

How is this dog around other dogs?: Owner stated Chocolate has never been around other dogs.

How is this dog around cats?: Owner stated Chocolate has never been around cats.

Resource guarding:: Owner stated Chocolate will growl is someone touches his food so they never touch it while he is eating. They don't give him toys because he will destroy it so he is given bones.

Bite history:: Chocolate has never bitten or scratched anyone owner stated.

Other Notes:: Chocolate is afraid of water and will crouch in the bath tub. He barks when unfamiliar people approaches the house.

For a New Family to Know: Chocolate eats dry food called Pedigree three times a day. He likes to sleep on blanket and play with bones. He is well behaved when home alone and never been crate trained. He is trained to use the bathroom outside but pulls very hard on leash.

Summary:: According to Chocolate's previous owner, he has not interacted with dogs in the past, so his previous behavior around other dogs is unknown. 2/10: When off leash at the Care Center, Chocolate is introduced to a novel female dog. He greets the female through the gate and immediately rushes and mounts her once the gate is opened. He is quickly separated from the female by handlers.

ENERGY LEVEL:: Chocolate displays a high energy in the care center, we recommend daily mental and physical stimulation as a way to direct his energy and enthusiasm.

IN SHELTER OBSERVATIONS:: 2/19 Chocolate remains highly social when interacting with caretakers, loose bodied and soft.
