Animal Profile

Mister

Hello, my name is Mister. My animal id is #52176. I am a desexed male red brown dog at the . The shelter thinks I am about 2 years 2 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 1/9/2019, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- no time for animal.

Someone has already placed a deposit on me. I'm no longer available.

Mister is at risk for behavioral reasons. While Mister has not shown concerns during interactions with people, Mister has exhibited worsening dog reactivity in the care center and will need behavior modification in this regard. Mister would be best placed into a single animal home and with an adopter that is able to manage Mister's dog reactivity with reward based training. Medically, Mister has a cherry eye and is recommended for further veterinary care.

Let's get to know each other a bit more...

Mister! The name alone makes me smile. Not only does this guy have the looks, he is a wonderful companion. Mister has been such a sweetheart with his human caretakers (he prefers them over doggies!). Mister loves massages and liver treats - he is pretty easily won over. My favorite thing about Mister has got to be how "chatty" he is and how he nudges your hand when you stop petting him. Mister is just the kind of dog I go to when I need a pick me up, he always knows how to put a smile on my face.

My medical notes are...

Weight: 51 lbs

Basic Information:: Mister was surrendered to our facilities due to the owner not having enough time or space to provide proper care for Mister. They had been given Mister by someone who had originally found him in an empty apartment about 3 months ago. He is a red brown medium mixed breed male dog reported to be around 2 years old.

Previously lived with:: 1 adult, 1 child

How is this dog around strangers?: Around strangers, Mister is friendly but may be shy at first. He will play gently with adults.

How is this dog around children?: Mister lived with a 6 year old for the past 3 months. Around the child, he is reportedly respectful, tolerant, quiet, and playful. He will play gently with the child and play chase outside.

How is this dog around other dogs?: Mister appears to be dog reactive towards larger dogs. Sometimes he is not bothered by other dogs, and sometimes he may whine, growl, bark, or lunge. The owner was not sure what causes the differences in types of reactions or what his background around dogs was prior to owning him.

How is this dog around cats?: Mister has not been around cats but does not seem to react when he is walked outside and sees stray cats.

Resource guarding:: Mister does not have any resource guarding behaviors, though the owner was unable to ever try to take a treat away from him because he would eat them so quickly. He is not bothered when his food or toys are touched and will also drop a toy on command.

Bite history:: For the past three months, Mister did not attempt to bite anyone or any other animal.

Housetrained:: No

Energy level/descriptors:: Medium

Other Notes:: Mister will use the bathroom indoors, both urinating and defecating. He is also frightened of loud noises, such as thunder or fireworks. He will shake. He is not bothered if pushed or pulled off of furniture, if disturbed while sleeping or resting, when given a bath, or when a stranger approaches the owner or family. He enjoys being brushed. He will grumble or growl if he hears someone in the hallway. The owner did not try to trim his nails.

Has this dog ever had any medical issues?: Yes

Medical Notes: When Mister was originally give to his most recent owner, he had wounds of an unknown origin on his face and muzzle. They healed on their own.

For a New Family to Know: Mister is described as being friendly, affectionate, playful, shy, and mellow. When you are home, he usually sleeps and may lay on his bed. He liked to play with the owner's son's hard plastic toys. He would play chase when the son would run around. He has been kept indoors mostly. He would sleep in a variety of places, including on the dog bed in the living room and at the foot of the owner's bed. He ate a variety of types of wet and dry food. The owner would fill the bowl twice a day and he would snack on the food throughout the day. He is not house trained and will urinate and defecate indoors. He will attempt to cover his feces with something like a blanket. He also uses the bathroom on any surface when taken outside. When left home alone, he is generally well behaved. He has never been left alone in a yard or been crate trained. He knows the command sit. He is used to walks on and off leash, as well as running in the park for exercise. When walked on leash, he pulls lightly and primarily only when he sees a squirrel. He has been walked off leash and wanders off a bit but comes back when called. His favorite thing to do is be pet.
