Hello, my name is Cheeto. My animal id is #16624. I am a male buff cat at the . The shelter thinks I am about 5 months 4 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a stray on 12/20/2017.

Someone has already placed a deposit on me. I'm no longer available.

Cheeto is at risk due to being diagnosed with an Upper Respiratory Infection which is contagious to other cats. Cheeto will likely require in home care with a course of antibiotics. Cheeto should go to an experienced cat owner that will allow Cheeto to acclimate to new surroundings at his own pace.

[DVM Intake] DVM Intake Exam Estimated age: 5 months History : stray Subjective: Observed Behavior - tense but tolerated exam well Evidence of Cruelty seen -no Evidence of Trauma seen -no Objective BCS 5/9 EENT: OU- mild conjunctival hyperemia and mild clear mucoid discharge, AU-brown waxy debris,no ear mites seen under microscope, mild mucoid nasal discharge seen Oral Exam: adult and some remaining deciduous teeth, moderate gingivitis PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupneic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: MI, 2 descended testicles MSI: Ambulatory x 4, flea dirt and live fleas seen, no masses noted, healthy hair coat CNS: Mentation appropriate - no signs of neurologic abnormalities Assessment nasal discharge- R/O URI vs other conjunctivitis fleas Prognosis: good Plan: start erythromycin OU BID x 7 days start doxycycline 22 mg PO SID x 10 days move to isolation gave capstar PO (x) SURGERY: Temporary waiver due to URI

Behavior during intake: Cat was nervous and timid but allowed being transferred from carrier to carrier without any concerning behavior.

Basic Information:: Finder saves kittens at his place of employment. He then he attempts to rehome them himself but if he is unsuccessful he brings them to SIACC to be adopted.

How is this cat around strangers?: Cat is nervous and timid but allows handling.

How is this cat around children?: Unknown

How is this cat around other cats?: Cat was brought in with 2 other kittens.

How is this cat around dogs?: Unknown

KNOWN HISTORY:: Cheeto was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: tense but tolerated exam well

Cage Condition:: Cage is slightly re-arranged

Reaction to assessor:: Cheeto is laying in the back of his kennel with his littermate.

Reaction when softly spoken to:: Cheeto has no change in body position besides making eye contact with assessor.

Reaction to cage door opening:: Cheeto sits up and appears alert. He hisses and moves to the other side of his kennel.

Reaction to touch:: Cheeto tries to avoid being pet when assessor reaches in to pet him. He moves away from assessor hand and becomes tense when pet along his body.

Reaction to being picked up:: Cheeto has a tense body upon pick up. After a short period of time he leaps back into his kennel and retreats to the back with his litter mate.

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Kitten socialization

Potential challenges comments:: Cheeto is a young cat that may not have had many interactions with humans from an early age. He may be apprehensive of people, but the behavior team believes he has potential to warm up to people. Kittens less than 8 weeks of age can be socialized by almost anyone; however, kittens between 2-4 months may require more time and skill in order for them to be comfortable around people. Please speak to an adoption counselor to learn more about socialization techniques.
