Animal Profile

Mia

Hello, my name is Mia. My animal id is #49973. I am a desexed female brown tabby cat at the . The shelter thinks I am about 6 years 2 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 12/7/2018, with the surrender reason stated as person health - allergies.

Reserved

Someone has already placed a deposit on me. I'm no longer available.

Mia is at risk for behavioral reasons. Mia has displayed fearful behavior during her stay in the care center and has displayed distance-increasing behavior with extended handling. Mia would do best in a low stress environment with an experienced cat owner with no children who can take a slow approach and manage her anxious behavior. Medically, Mia seems healthy.

Let's get to know each other a bit more...

A staff member writes:"Mia is a chubby tabby, looking for a new home. Mia is one of our more chatty cats, always calling someone over. She never fails to catch the attention of whomever is around. Mia has had quite a few housemates in her life. Some of her housemates include dogs, cats, birds, and of course, her previous hooman. If you're already a pet owner, Mia would do just fine in your home. Or maybe, if you're just looking too add a touch of kitty class to you're household,check out Mia."

Potential challenges comments:: Mia has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and has displayed distance-increasing behavior with extended handling. Fear aggression can occur when a cat perceives a threat and may escalate if they cannot escape. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experienced, adult only

Behavior Asilomar: TM - Treatable-Manageable

RECOMMENDATIONS:: None

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Mia tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
