Kai
Hello, my name is Kai. My animal id is #240092. I am a male gray cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 7 years 2 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a stray on 10/25/2025.
Kai needs at risk placement for medical reasons. He is an adult cat with recurrent pain from oral ulceration and gingivitis. He needs placement in a low stress environment and out-patient monitoring with a veterinarian to recover.

This pet needs emergency placement. Please click here to go to our emergency placement page for more information. Kai needs at risk placement for medical reasons. He is an adult cat with recurrent pain from oral ulceration and gingivitis. He needs placement in a low stress environment and out-patient monitoring with a veterinarian to recover. A volunteer writes: Kai was visiting a Good Samaritan's backyard for a week. As he looked thin, weak and did not want any food, the decision was made to bring Kai to the Manhattan Care Center. Kai was overly thin, anemic and had gingivo-stomatitis with ulcers that likely were quite painful. Kai is a cute all grey kitty, quiet and very receptive to sweet words and petting. He gives the gentlest head bunts and leans softly into pets. He is such a sweet chap who so deserves a safe and stable home and a loving family that will provide all the TLC he so much needs. I have no doubt that in return, Kai will be the best and loyal pet ever. Kai's ulcers are still quite active despite the veterinary care he is getting at the care center and after initially getting a bit better better, his condition got worse again. Kai very much needs a quiet home environment with veterinary supervision to get over this bump. This sweet boy is so worth your attention and love! What my friends at ACC say about me: I have medical needs that staff will address with you when you meet me. Kai Kai was resting on top of the den, slightly subdued and calm, and immediately sniffed treats and accepted all petting while giving the gentlest of head bunts. He seems very sweet but possibly a little subdued due to being under the weather. A partial pick-up was attempted using upward pressure on his abdomen, and he remained calm during and after that. Kai interacts with the observer, solicits & appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for cat parents with either an average amount of cat experience or demonstrate a basic understanding of typical cat behavior.
