Alcapun

Hello, my name is Alcapun. My animal id is #62716. I am a desexed male brown dog at the . The shelter thinks I am about 6 years 1 months 2 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a agency on 6/10/2019.

Someone has already placed a deposit on me. I'm no longer available.

Alcapun is at risk for behavioral reasons. Alcapun has a bite history and has displayed handling and touch sensitivities. Alcapun would be best suited for placement with a new hope partner that can provide the necessary behavior modification. Medically, Alcapun has dental disease which may require further care.

Let's get to know each other a bit more...

Hi everyone! My name is Alcapun! I know what you're thinking... sounds like Al Capone, but I'm no gangster so feel free to (sing it with me!) call me Al. I was a little bit scared when I first arrived but after meeting some canine and human friends, I have been feeling much more comfortable! I love to get up close to my human pals and give them big, slobbery kisses to show how much I love them, and to ask for a few extra scratches or treats. I've been getting a lot of those while my friends teach me to 'sit' and lie down! They call it learning my manners, but I call it snack time. Either way, we all have so much fun it doesn't feel like training! Please come and meet me at Manhattan ACC and I'll show you what I have learned!

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only

Behavior Asilomar: TM - Treatable-Manageable

Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner

Recommendations comments:: No children: Due to the noted behavior concerns from the previous owners regarding his handling sensitivity and bite history, we recommend an adult-only home for Alcapun. Place with a New Hope partner: Due to the noted behavior concerns from the previous owners regarding his handling sensitivity and bite history where he bite the owner's boyfriend on the arm while he was attempting to move him from the room, we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home.

Potential challenges: : Bite history (human),House soiling,Handling/touch sensitivity,Separation anxiety,Anxiety

Potential challenges comments:: House soiling: The previous owner reports that Alcapun has had accidents in the home before. Please see handout on House soiling. Handling/touch sensitivity: The previous owner reports that Alcapun would nip at their faces when they would grab him in an attempt to move him off of furniture and out of rooms. He escalated to growling and biting the boyfriend on the arm when he attempted to move him to a different room. These incidents suggest that Alcapun is very uncomfortable with this handling. He will need a very slow approach when attempting to handle him in this way. Please see handout on Handling/touch sensitivity. Bite history: When the owner's boyfriend reached for his collar in an attempt to move him to a different room, Alcapun growled and bit his arm and broke skin. Please see handout on Bite history. Anxiety: The previous owners report that Alcapun has extreme anxiety when he is confined to one room or a kennel alone. He barks until someone comes and on one occasion, he broke through a door. Please see handout on Separation Anxiety and Anxiety.
