Hello, my name is Storm. My animal id is #11099. I am a desexed male brown tabby cat at the . The shelter thinks I am about 3 years 1 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 10/29/2017, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- moving - no pets allowed.

Someone has already placed a deposit on me. I'm no longer available.

Storm is being placed at risk due to behavior (Adult Only determination). He can't be placed in adoptions due to becoming overstimulating and nipping. At this time there are no medical concerns for Storm.

Mild sneezing, and mild serous nasal discharge this morning. Move to isolation, start doxycycline 1.2 ml PO SID x10 days. 1088

Upon intake, Storm was growling and hissing. Towel restraint had to be used to collar and then take a picture.

Is this cat having litter box issues?: No

Basic Information:: Storm is a 3 year old male neutered domestic short hair that the owner got as a gift from a family member when Storm was a kitten. The owner is surrendering Storm because he is moving to an apartment where they do not allow pets. Storm's last vet visit was a routine visit two months ago. Storm does not have any health problems that the owner is aware of.

How is this cat around strangers?: Storm is described as shy and curious around strangers.

How is this cat around children?: Storm is tolerant of children.

How is this cat around other cats?: Storm has never been around other cats.

How is this cat around dogs?: Storm has never been around dogs.

Behavior Notes: Storm never goes outside of his litter box. The owner has never bathed Storm, trimmed his nails, brushed him, or disturbed him while he was sleeping. Storm struggles when he is picked up and held and when he is being put into a carrier.

Bite history:: Storm has never bitten or scratched another animal or a person.

For a New Family to Know: Storm is described as independent and that is the owner's favorite thing about him. Storm's favorite thing to do is lay on the owner's bed. When the owner is home, sometimes Storm will follow him around. Storm likes stuffed toys. Storm has been kept indoors only. Storm likes to sleep anywhere. Storm is fed 1/2 a can of 9 lives wet food and 1 cup of 9 lives dry food a day. Storm's favorite treats are temptations. Storm uses a covered litter box with crystal litter. Storm scratches on the couch which is made out of fabric.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Observed Behavior - Initially allowed touching then became fractious scratching and hissing

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 10/30/17 Resting on bedding, eyes dilated, crouched low. Seemed unsure. Started hissing and grumbling when door opened, retreated to other kennel. Leaned away when attempted touch, lifted paw and threatened to swat. Sprayed thunderease. 10/31/17 Resting next to litter box, soft posture but eyes dilated. Started grumbling quietly and tail flicking on approach. Became alert and sat up when door opened. Sniffed offered assess-a-hand, then hissed and retreated to crouch in litter box.

Cage Condition:: No change

Reaction to assessor:: Storm remains neutral, lying down on his kuranda bed during the approach.

Reaction when softly spoken to:: Storm becomes alert with eyes wide open, looking around his surroundings.

Reaction to cage door opening:: Storm remains in place, ears erect and froward.

Reaction to touch:: Storm sniffs at first, then slowly leans into the assessor's hand, but during petting he becomes agitated when touched on the back and began to follow the hand and hissed. He seems to be conflicted because once the petting stopped he continues to solicit attention. If the petting continues, he huffs and puffs then gently places mouth on the hand and hisses as warning to stop the interaction.

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Storm tolerates attention and petting but may be stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home who understands this cat may need time to warm up to his new home and family at his own pace.
