I came into the shelter as a stray on 10/29/2017.

Kalahari is at risk due to behavior (New Hope Only determination). We have been unable to handle her and she has been uncomfortable with interactions. Behaviors shown have been hissing and swiping at assessors. There are no known medical condition for Kalahari at this time.

[DVM Intake] DVM Intake Exam Estimated age: approx. 2 yo Microchip noted on Intake? neg History : stray, found in hall of a building Subjective: Caution, very aggressive, swatting, tries to bite, growling, hissing. BAR. Limited PE. Observed Behavior - Evidence of Cruelty seen - n Evidence of Trauma seen - n Objective T = P = wnl R = eupnic BCS 5/9 EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean externally, no nasal or ocular discharge noted, no c/s H/L: NSR, NMA (difficult to auscult, growling and hissing), Lungs clear (difficult to auscult, growling and hissing), eupnic ABD: not palpated U/G: female. unsure if spayed MSI: Ambulatory x 4, no obvious masses seen externally, good hair coat CNS: Mentation appropriate - no signs of neurologic abnormalities Assessment: apparently healthy on limited PE Aggressive Prognosis: Adoptability poor due to behavior Plan: Behavior evaluation needed Sedation needed to check for spay scar, if none, plan for OHE SURGERY: Okay for surgery

Behavior Condition: 5. Red

Upon intake, Kalahari was interested in his surroundings and came up to counselor for scratches and pets. He allowed counselor to pet but struggled to go inside carrier.

KNOWN HISTORY:: Kalahari was brought in as a stray, so we don't have any behavioral history or tendencies in a home environment.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Subjective: Caution, very aggressive, swatting, tries to bite, growling, hissing. BAR. Limited PE.

Cage Condition:: No change

Reaction to assessor:: Kalahari remains lying down on her cage bedding during the approach.

Reaction when softly spoken to:: Kalahari becomes alert with eyes dilated, ears erect and forward.

Reaction to cage door opening:: Kalahari hissed and swiped at the assessor's hand when attempted to open.

Reaction to touch:: Unable to perform do to behavior.

VOCAL:: Somewhat chatty

Behavior Asilomar: TM - Treatable-Manageable

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Kalahari is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. She is stressed in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
