I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 12/18/2017, with the surrender reason stated as not a fit - too many animals already.

New York is at risk due to being diagnosed with an Upper Respiratory Infection and will likely require home rest and a series of antibiotics for up to 14 days. This is a contagious illness to other cats. this cat can go to a beginner home.

[Spay/Neuter Waiver - Upper Respiratory Illness] Your newly adopted animal is in treatment for an upper respiratory illness. The veterinarian is temporarily waiving this animal from the spay/neuter requirements of the City of NY until such time as the illness has resolved and the pet has sufficiently recovered. At that time, this animal must come into compliance with the spay/neuter requirements.

Basic Information:: New Yorker is a 6 month old, DSH female, who was not spayed prior to coming into the shelter. She has no known health issues or injuries and has not seen a vet recently. She was an owner surrender due to the owner having too many animals in the home.

Previously lived with:: In home with owner and 2 children

How is this cat around strangers?: New Yorker is shy for a few minutes when meeting new people but after warming up she will come and approach guests.

How is this cat around children?: New Yorker has lived with young children in the home and is relaxed and playful with them.

How is this cat around other cats?: New Yorker lived with a number of other cats and was reportedly affectionate and respectful with them.

How is this cat around dogs?: New Yorker has not spent time around dogs.

Behavior Notes: New Yorker's owner has not bathed or trimmed her nails, but she is able to brush her with the glove brush. She allows her owner to pick her up and hold her and putting her in a carrier without struggle.

She likes to play with all kinds of toys and has been an indoor cat. She sleeps anywhere in the home and eats both wet and dry food. She is litter box trained using an un covered box with clumping fresh step litter. She uses a scratching post made from carpet and cardboard.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 12/19/17 Lying in back of kennel, body relaxed and ears forward. Tail is curled around feet. Makes eye contact when spoken to and rolls over onto his side. Allows petting along head and body while leaning in and purring. Doing well!

Reaction to assessor:: New York was purring and reaching out with soft paws towards the assessor.

Reaction when softly spoken to:: New York continues purring and rubs her body up against the kennel door.

Reaction to cage door opening:: New York is calm and relaxed.

Reaction to touch:: New York nuzzles up against the assessor's hand, gives head butts and allows petting all over her body. She rolls around, licks the assessor's and is incredibly affectionate.
