This animal needs emergency placement. Please click here to go to our emergency placement page for more information. Due to the need for extensive behavior modification, this animal is only available for foster/adoption through one of ACC's New Hope Partners. Please read the below information thoroughly about this dog and if you are interested in fostering or adopting, please fill out the pre-screener form. This animal is not directly available for adoption through ACC and is only available by completing the pre-screener form. Adoption inquiries sent directly to ACC will not receive a response. Pre-Screener Form Agnes is on emergency placement for behavior concerns. Agnes remains highly fearful in the care center and has not acclimated well, she has also been observed to snap when uncomfortable. Medically, Agnes has alopecia. Agnes has been highly fearful since arriving at the care center. She will press herself against the back of the kennel, climbing up, seeking an exit, when the handler approaches. When taken out of the kennel for a walk and medical exam, she flailed and snapped while on a leash. She has shown no interest in treats or other enrichment items. Since Agnes arrived as a stray, nothing is known of her behavior in a home. For this reason and because of her high level of fear, an adult-only home that has experience working with fear-based behaviors is recommended. I am looking for a home with a patient person. I will flourish in a calm environment and a low-traffic home.

Means of surrender (length of time in previous home):: Stray

Date of assessment:: 10/14/2021

Summary:: When brought outside for her assessment walk, Agnes appeared fearful outside, walking with a slightly low body and at times pulling hard on leash to investigate or avoid certain stimuli. At this time she is not a candidate for a handling assessment due to concern for safety and stress level.

Date of initial:: 10/13/2021

Summary:: Fearful, avoided leashing, tense

ENERGY LEVEL:: Agnes appears fearful in the care center. It is unknown how her energy level may translate once acclimated into a home environment.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only

Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner

Recommendations comments:: No children: Due to Agnes displaying a high level of fear and being observed to snap toward handlers, we recommend an adult-only home. Due to all noted concerns, the behavior department recommends Agnes be placed with a New Hope placement partner who is able to provide an experienced, adult-only foster home. A period of decompression is recommended to allow her to acclimate comfortably to her new environment. Force-free, reward based training is advised when introducing Agnes to new and unfamiliar situations. Consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended for guidance to safely manage/modify any behavior she presents with outside of the care centers.
