Hello, my name is Gizmoe. My animal id is #88103. I am a male brown dog at the . The shelter thinks I am about 8 years 2 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 2/14/2020, with the surrender reason stated as animal health - will need ongoing vet care.

Gizmoe was placed at risk due to behavior; he was brought to the care center by his previous owner due to allergies and financial hardship. It was reported that Gizmoe has a multiple bite history with the more recent being to a young girl in the household, resulting in minor injuries. Gizmoe is reported to display resource guarding for toys/food and furniture by growling and snapping. In the Care Center, we have observed Gizmoe to be shy/fearful with a medium energy level. He was diagnosed with KSC, Malasezzia and Otitis Externa.

It is the policy of ACC not to perform surgery on any animal over the age of 8-10 years due to the higher risks incurred in a shelter setting. The veterinarian is hereby issuing a permanent spay/neuter waiver, from the spay/neuter requirements of the City of NY due to the estimated age of this animal. ACC does recommend you consult with your veterinarian to determine if surgical sterilization is appropriate.

Progress exam History : 2/14/20-yeasty dermatitis, otitis, KCS, possible allergies. STT 0 OU, started on optimmune, TAB ointment, malaseb baths, ketoconazole, otipak applied AU. Subjective: BARH. Vomiting noted once on rounds board. No csvd noted on exam. Was a little head shy but allowed handling including eye exam and diagnostics. Upon intake, Gizmoe was alert but quiet. He has a loose body. Admission's counselor was able to leash him and take his photo as well as pick him up to transfer him to medical.

Basic Information:: Gizmoe is a male unaltered small mixed breed who was surrendered into ACC due to owner not being able to care for him because of his allergies and behavior concerns.

Previously lived with:: 3 adults 1 toddler

How is this dog around strangers?: Owner stated that Gizmoe is Shyat first and would need to go easy but can sometimes be aggressive depending if there are a lot of people at one time to approach him, he will get overstimulated and will growl and bark, and may snap.

How is this dog around children?: Owner stated that Gizmoe tolerates her toddler and is independent around her one year old toddler.

How is this dog around other dogs?: has not been around dogs

How is this dog around cats?: has not been around cats

Resource guarding:: Client also stated that Gizmo, resource guards with treats , furniture, and toys. Owner stated he would growl, snap, and/or bite.

Bite history:: Client stated that a little over a year ago she was laying down with Gizmoe when she went to move him over on the bed and he turned around and bit her. Client stated he has not bit her since. Gizmoe bit and broke skin of her 1 year old daughter, leaving two small puncture wounds on her thumb, palm area. She stated that her daughter is always coming after Gizmoe therefore on the day of the incident, her daughter was running toward Gizmoe.

Housetrained:: Yes

Energy level/descriptors:: medium

Other Notes:: Owner stated that within the last year, ever since her daughter was born, Gizmoe would at times have accidents and pee or poo inside, not on his wee wee pads. He has not seen a vet for this issue. Owner stated that Gizmoe can get overstimulated and will growl, bark, or snarl and at times bite people. Owner stated that Gizmoe is terrified of storms and fireworks and that he would panic. Owner stated that when touching Gizmoe's food or bowl while eating, he isn't bothered. Owner stated that when being held or restrained, Gizmoe would bark. Owner also stated that when being bathe or nails trimmed Gizmoe would bite. Owner stated that when being disturb while sleeping or resting, Gizmoe is friendly. Owner stated that when someone unfamiliar approaches the yard, house or family Gizmoe growls or would bark and at times could snap or bite.

Medical Notes: Client stated that Gizmoe has had allergies since he was a puppy.

For a New Family to Know: Owner described Gizmoe to be mellow with a medium activity level. Owner stated that her favorite trait of Gizmoe is that at times he can be very affectionate. Owner stated Gizmoe's favorite activity is laying down. Owner stated that Gizmoe likes stuffed toys and loves to alert and bark. Owner stated that Gizmoe has been indoors only with the exception of being taken out for walks. Owner stated that Gizmo stays in his favorite spot; the couch. Owner stated that she gave Gizmo any food, wet or dry. Gizmoe's favorite treats are beggin strips. Owner stated that Gizmoe is house trained both outside with leash walking and inside with wee wee pads. Owner stated that when left alone, Gizmoe is well-behaved. Owner stated that Gizmoe has been crate trained when he was two but was not successful. Owner stated that Gizmoe enjoys slow walks on leash and will pull lightly. When off leash he would wander but comes when called.
