Hello, my name is Jaz. My animal id is #11574. I am a male brown tabby cat at the . The shelter thinks I am about 6 months old.

I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 11/3/2017, with the surrender reason stated as not a fit - too many animals already.

Someone has already placed a deposit on me. I'm no longer available.

Jaz is at risk due to being diagnosed with an Upper Respiratory Infection and will likely require home rest and a series of antibiotics for up to 14 days. This is a contagious illness to other cats.

Your newly adopted pet has been diagnosed with conjunctivitis and the staff veterinarians are issuing a temporary waiver from the spay/neuter requirements of the City of NY. Follow up care at your regular veterinarian is recommended to ensure continued treatment. Your veterinarian will advise you if surgical sterilization is appropriate.

Basic Information:: Jaz is a brown tabby that is possibly 4 months old. The owner bred jaz cat home. Teh owner is surrendering Jaz his other cat due to having to many cats.

If yes, Please elaborate:: The kitten uses the litter box. That he shared with 5 other cats. However the owner did not clean the litter box frequently, so the kitten defecated and urinates outside the litter.

How is this cat around children?: never been around children. Just lived with the 4 adults in the home.

How is this cat around other cats?: The Jaz lived with 5 other cats. They all lived in harmony and played chase around the house.

How is this cat around dogs?: Never been around dogs.

Behavior Notes: The kitten was never bathed nor had his nails trimmed. The kitten allows to be picked up, brushed and walks into his carrier.

Bite history:: Never had a bite history.

For a New Family to Know: Jaz is described as playful,friendly and affectionate. The kitten loves mouse stuffed toys and strings. The kitten ate a diet of dry or wet cat food of any brand.

Energy level/descriptors: Jaz is described as playful, friendly and affectionate with a high activity level. Other notes: The kitten loves mouse stuffed toys and strings.

Reaction to assessor:: Jaz was grooming himself upon approach.

Reaction when softly spoken to:: Jaz pauses for a quick second, and then continues to groom.

Reaction to cage door opening:: Jaz becomes alert, but remains in place.

Reaction to touch:: Jaz was hesitant and shifts away slightly to avoid touch, but allows gentle petting and warms up. He begins to purr and slowly lifts his rear.

Reaction to being picked up:: Jaz is a bit tense during pick up, but he remains calm when held.

Potential challenges comments:: Jaz previous owner reports he has been eliminating outside the litter box. We are unaware if any modification steps were taken to try and address this behavior, but please note that his previous living situation may have contributed to the behavior seen (Jaz previously lived in a home with 5 other cats who all shared a single litter box, which was not cleaned frequently). We cannot be sure whether this behavior will continue in a different home environment, but we recommend that potential adopters be comfortable with management and modification techniques for elimination outside the litter box should this behavior continue in a home environment. He has been using the litter box appropriately during his stay in the care center.
