Mimi
Hello, my name is Mimi. My animal id is #213166. I am a female brown tabby cat at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 7 years 1 months 1 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 11/16/2024, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- no time for animal.
Mimi is on the at-risk list for medical concerns. Mimi has been having persistent vomiting and diarrhea since arriving at the shelter. It has been refractory to the usual treatments. Mimi needs a special diet trial and additional diagnostics (GI panel, AUS, +/- biopsies).

This pet needs emergency placement. Please click here to go to our emergency placement page for more information. Mimi appreciates some attention and petting but appears fearful or stressed in the shelter. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to an adult-only home with experienced cat parents. A volunteer writes: Mimi feels compelled to stay ready for when you come in, so she likes to nap right at the front. She's a glass half full kind of cat and welcoming visitors has kind of become her thing. As a perfect seven year old optimist, Mimi knows she may have to work a little harder than the kittens to stand out, but stand out she does! She knows that every moment is a chance to be great and bonus points if you get to use your moment to make a friend. Her approach to life is beautiful and also instantly evident. As soon as I walked by her condo, Mimi popped out of her nap and right into my arms to say hello. With her head in my hands, Mimi danced and snuggled her way right into my heart. She may look like a tiny kitten, but she's got a great big heart and is really so excited for a second chance.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 11/21/24 FB79 In the front of her cubby, Mimi has a relaxed/neutral face and body with forward ears and almond eyes. She sniffs my hand and remains still until i place some treats in front of her which she sniffs and begins to enjoy; she allows pets on her head/cheeks as well as down her back and even head bunts for more pets when she finished her treats. Mimi allowed me to pick her up and place her back briefly and back in kennel she had no reaction with her paws tucked away under her body. 11/24/24 Vol Mimi approached the front of her kennel as soon as she saw me coming towards her. I gave her Temptations and she allowed me to pet her as she ate them. She accepted all petting on her head and body. She got very close to my face and looked me directly in the eye. She is very sweet and likes affection and treats.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Mellow
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Calm,Sweet,Affectionate,Curious
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: New home adjustment period
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 2
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: On approach, Mimi is laying in her hide box with a slightly tense face and body, eyes almond and hisses once before slow blinking, ears forward. When the assessor offers their hand out, she lip licks but accepts pets along her head and side. She then flattens onto her side and accepts more pets with a softer face but remains wary of the environment. Pick up is not attempted at this time. 11/25/24 Although timid initially, Mimi has now warmed up to the shelter environment! Mimi was lying in the back of her kennel as the assessor approached, body and face neutral and ears forward. Mimi made eye contact when spoken to and she softened her expression while slow-blinking as the kennel door opened. Mimi stepped forward when called and she allowed all petting while leaning in, raising her tail and purring. Mimi remained calm when lifted and placed back down. Mimi interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for cat parents with either an average amount of cat experience, demonstrate a basic understanding of typical cat behavior.
