Someone has already placed a deposit on me. I'm no longer available.

Roscoe is at risk for medical reasons. Roscoe was diagnosed with canine infectious respiratory disease complex which is contagious to other animals and will require further care. Behaviorally, Roscoe can be a bit fearful around strangers and will need a gradual approach.

You may know me from such films as...

Let's get to know each other a bit more...

A Volunteer Wrote: Give him a warm leg and a friendly hand, and this dog becomes the Leaning Tower of Pisa, canine style: He so sweetly sits as close as he can against you, threatening to topple if you move. But why in the world would you want to? Roscoe won our hearts, first with his sweet greetings of the dogs in the pens around him, and then with his sweet, steady company. He wags his tail easily and readily, but is independent enough to let the adults talk among themselves without ever interrupting. A lovely, lovely boy, Roscoe will make such a faithful and steady companion!

My medical notes are...

Weight: 58.5 lbs

Summary:: Timid but friendly

Date of initial:: 10/6/2019

Summary:: Tense

ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Roscoe so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. However, he is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm.

IN SHELTER OBSERVATIONS:: 10/19/19: Throughout his stay in the care center, Roscoe’s behavior remains consistent; timid initially though warming up readily upon a slower approach. Once allowed to acclimate, he has been attention seeking and social (leaning in and loose bodied). During walks, Roscoe passes other dogs and humans without issue. 10/8/19: While a volunteer had Roscoe out, she leaned over him and put her hand out and he backed away and growled.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: Level 3

Behavior Asilomar: TM - Treatable-Manageable

Recommendations:: No children (under 13)

Recommendations comments:: No children: Roscoe has growled when a person has leaned over him. For this reason, we recommend an adult only home with people who will move slowly around him.

Potential challenges: : Fearful/potential for defensive aggression

Potential challenges comments:: Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: When people move too quickly around Roscoe, crowd him, or lean over him, he becomes fearful, tensing and moving away. In one instance where someone leaned over him and reached out her hand, he growled. He will need a slow approach. Please see handout on Fearful/potential for defensive aggression.
