Someone has already placed a deposit on me. I'm no longer available.

Bread Loaf is at risk due to behavioral reasons. He has continued to display high levels of fear, stress, and anxiety in the care centers, such as whale eyeing, lip licking, and walking with a tucked tail. He has escalated to muzzle punching his kennel door, nipping at the leash, and snapping towards the lock and handlers hands. It was reported that Bread Loaf will leash bite, and the behavior will intensify when returning to kennel. Also noted that on his walks, was his body becoming tense due to loud sounds and his surroundings. He would pause and nip at the lead whenever frustrated. At one point, he thrashed before being brought in for an assessment. Bread Loaf has continued to allow handling. Medically, Bread Loaf is apparently underweight.

Summary:: Whale eyed, tucked tail, accepted cheese

ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Bread Loaf so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. However, he is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only

Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner

Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to fearful behavior we recommend a home with no children. We recommend placement with a New Hope rescue partner who is able to provide an experienced, adult-only foster home. Force-free, reward based training and/or consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended.

Potential challenges: : Mouthiness/poor bite inhibition,Fearful

Potential challenges comments:: Mouthiness: Bread Loaf has been observed to become mouthy with handlers. Noted to mouth their hand and pants with light pressure. We recommend never playing with bare hands, always with a toy, and ending play or attention whenever Bread puts teeth on skin. They should be rewarded with attention and treats when they stop and/or when they are seeking attention in alternate ways. Please see handout on Mouthiness. Fearful: Bread Loaf has shown clear signs of fearfulness while in care, whale eyeing and lip licking and walking with a tucked tail. It is important to always go slow and give Bread the option to walk away from any social interaction. Bread should never be forced to approach anything that he is uncomfortable with or to submit to petting or handling. It should always be Breads choice to approach a new person or thing. Bread would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to his new surroundings. Please see handout on Decompression Period.
