Due to the detailed behaviors we recommend an experienced adult only home. What my friends at ACC say about me: My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! I'm ready to learn! I need a patient person who has the time to work on training with me. I would do best in a home without very tiny humans, although I could be open to older human children once I meet them. I am excitable and energetic! I will need positive outlets for my energy! I love getting pets and - you guessed it - snuggles!

Summary (5):: 2/20/25: Gomez is at the front of her kennel as handler approaches. She begins jumping and barking at handler who offers her treats, but she is not receptive. She does not accept treats from handler and begins biting the leash when handler attempts to leash. Handler uses a second leash to distract Gomez and tethers the main leash through the on being bitten and successfully leashes her. She is taken to the street for her walk, during which she walks past people on the street without issue and pulls mildly. She is brought back inside and clipped before returning to kennel without issue.
Summary (6):: 2/19/25: The behavior team will administer AM meds. 2/18/25: Gomez is observed to be leash biting in the yard with a handler. She is escalating and moving up on the leash towards handlers hand. She vocalizes briefly as she retreats, still leash biting. Second handler tosses treats but she is unable to be redirected. She jumps up and down on the door barking. Handler tosses treats on the ground to get her attention and is then leashed. She runs out of the kennel once the door is opened but handler is able to guide her towards out the exit. Once on the street she pulls ahead without stopping to sniff or explore her surroundings. She will come to handler when called but returns to pulling ahead. She returns to kennel without issue. 2/1/25: It is reported by staff that Gomez is kennel reactive, attempting to cage fight when passing other dogs kennels.
Summary (7):: 1/24/25: Gomez is at the front of her kennel as handler approaches. She quickly perks up and begins jumping and barking while pawing at her glass door. She is offered a treat and sniffs it but does not take it, instead she tries to stick her head and front paw out of the kennel door. She is leashed successfully and pulls out of kennel hard down the hall leading out the building. She faces the dogs she passes and attempts to pull towards them but is kept away by handler. She is put on a slip lead harness while distracted by treats handler tosses on the ground and brought to the street for her walk. Once on the slip lead harness Gomez pulls significantly less and walks slightly in front of handler. Gomez will walk past people on the street without issue, and when called by handler will turn and engage with them, occasionally jumping on them. She enjoys pattern games with handler but accepts treats with moderate pressure. She will fixate on dogs she sees on the street but can be redirected with the use of the previously mentioned pattern games and treats. She is walked for a while and uses the bathroom while outside. Gomez begins to pull harder as the walk reaches its end and she pulls back to kennel and towards the dog kennels she passes intensely. She is returned to kennel without further issue. 1/23/25: Gomez was observed to bark and pull forward at dogs passing by her in the yard. She will persistently do it despite handlers efforts to distract. She will then try to cage fight returning to kennel. 1/22/25: ACS reports that Gomez jumped up and mouthed their arm with hard pressure. 1/5/25: Gomez is at the front of her kennel as handler approaches. She is leashed without issue and taken to the street for her walk. She pulls hard while on the street, but walks past people and dogs without issue. She is slightly frantic as she pulls forward, zig zagging as she walks down the block. She is then brought back to the building for an assessment, during which she allows collaring and petting while expressing an exuberant and energetic demeanor. She is then leashed again before being returned to kennel without issue.

Summary:: Social allowed handling
Date of initial:: 1/2/2025
Summary:: loose wiggly body, eager to interact, jumps up socially
ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Gomez so we cannot be certain of their behavior in a home environment. However, they will need daily mental and physical activity to stay engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct their energy and enthusiasm.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only
Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner
Recommendations comments:: No young children (under 13): Due to lack of basic manners and mouthiness we recommend a home with no children. We recommend placement with a New Hope rescue partner who is able to provide an experienced, adult-only foster home. Force-free, reward based training and/or consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended.
Potential challenges: : Basic manners/poor impulse control,Mouthiness/poor bite inhibition,Leash-biting
Potential challenges comments:: Basic Manners: Gomez has been observed to jump up on handlers in a social manner. It is recommended that default behaviors such as "Sit" and "Off" are reinforced to substitute any frustration and teach them to control their impulses instead of simply reacting; proper management is also advised. Force-free, reward-based training only is recommended. Please see handout on Basic Manners. Mouthiness: Gomez has been observed to mouth handlers with hard pressure. We recommend never playing with bare hands, always with a toy, and ending play or attention whenever Gomez puts teeth on skin. They should be rewarded with attention and treats when they stop and/or when they are seeking attention in alternate ways. Please see handout on Mouthiness. Leash Biting: Gomez has been observed to jump up, bite, and hold the leash while walking. This behavior is not able to be redirected easily. We recommend walking them with a toy to dissuade them from grabbing the leash. Positive reinforcement, force-free training is advised to teach them to focus on you rather than grabbing the leash. Please see handout on Leash Manners.
