Pimbon
Hello, my name is Pimbon . My animal id is #221061. I am a male brown brindle dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years old.
I came into the shelter as a stray on 2/22/2025.
Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.
Pre-Screener FormPimbon is at risk due to behavioral reasons. Pimbon arrived at MACC as a stray with no known history. He has been observed to become tense and fixate on other dogs while hard barking. In the kennel room Pimbon has been observed to intensely cage fight with the neighboring dogs. This behavior is not able to be redirected using treats and has escalated to Pimbon thrashing and snapping when being returned to kennel. Medically Pimbon is apparently healthy.

Behavior Condition: 2. Blue
Upon intake, Scooter was very hyper and ran around the lobby. He was not interested in food or treats. He just wanted to investigate all the smell around him and took BRC staff for a ride! He allowed collaring, scanning for MC, and with some assistance he was put in the kennel.

Summary:: Pimbon arrived at MACC as a stray with no known history. He has been observed to become tense and fixate on other dogs while hard barking. In the kennel room Pimbon has been observed to intensely cage fight with the neighboring dogs. Due to these behaviors Pimbon is not a candidate for a handling assessment at this time.
Summary (6):: 2/24/25 (PM walk)- Pimbon is at the front of the kennel barking and pawing at the door as handler leashes, handler uses a treat lure and he is easily leashed. When exiting the kennel he intensely cage fights pushing off the wall and floor fan. When in the hallway he tries to cage fight with a dog in a pop up crate, handler has to pull hard to keep him away. He is taken to the play yard. He randomly will advance on handlers and handler holding the leash will straight arm. Handlers tosses treats but he shows no interest in them. He leans into handler's legs seeking pets and handlers will pet, he will then turn to jump on handlers with a slight tense body. He relieves himself a couples times while in pen. When a volunteer comes into the play yard and enters a neighboring pen, Pimbon becomes tense body, hard staring with a medium stiff tail. Second handler puts a leash on him, as they do so Pimbon starts to bark at the other dog. Handlers don't clip their leashes. When returning into the building Pimbon is vocalizing and trying to fight with the pop up crate dog in the hallway again. When entering the room Pimbon attempts to push off the wall to cage fight and pushing his back legs off the floor fan. When attempting to return him into kennel his cage fighting intensifies with the neighboring kennel, handlers attempted to muscle in and Pimbon thrashes harder, trying to snap at handlers' hands. They backed away and attempted again to return him, he repeated again snapping/ thrashing at handlers' hands. Handlers backed away from the kennel and Pimbon was thrashing still. On final attempt to return both handlers had to apply mpre tension to leashes and threw/ muscle Pimbon back into the kennel as he was trying to get back out. Handler used a hook to remove leashes which was done without further issues.
Summary (7):: 2/24/25: Pimbon is at the front of kennel vocalizing and pawing at the door frantically as handler approaches. As handler presents leash, his frantic behavior continues as he paws and attempts to nip handlers hands/leash. Handler is able to use squeaker to lure him into a kennel rope. As he is removed from kennel he immediately lunges towards the other dogs, intensely kennel fighting as he exits the room. Handler has to use both arms to and muscle to keep him against the wall. In the yard he is kept on a leash for the interaction. He sniffs around his surroundings, relieving himself, and occasionally staring at the neighboring dogs. He is easily redirected. Handler pets him along his back and torso and Pimbon leans in, and continues to return to handler soliciting more pets. Once handler stops petting, Pimbon pushes off handlers knees and jumps up very high, almost eye level with handler. Handler takes a step back and Pimbon continues sniffing his surroundings. As he is returned to kennel, he kennel fights but not as intensely as when he exits. 2/22/25- Field transport had Pimbon in the hallway, when they went to enter the room a handler was exiting with a dog. The transporter moved out to get out of the way, as Pimbon was passing a pop up crate he started to hard bark and pull towards the dog in the crate. When they moved further down the hallway Pimbon was fixated on the dogs in the hallways continuously hard barking. K9 behavior started to toss treats but wasn't able to redirect/ break Pimbon's fixation on dogs. When hallway was cleared and transporter went to the kennel room Pimbon again hard barked at the pop up crate dog pulling towards them. Handler didn't clip leash and when kennel door was being opened Pimbon attempted to cage fight with the neighboring kennel. He had to be pulled back and muscled into kennel. Before handlers were able to close the door Pimbon pushed hard against the door and got out. He was still on leash and again tried to cage fight with neighboring kennel. He was once again strong armed and muscled in, he spun again attempting to escape. K9 behavior handler took the leash from transporter handler and muscled Pimbon into the kennel pushing him further into the kennel and quickly closing the door. Handler got a hook and was able to remove the leash without issue as Pimbon was barking at the wall of his kennel with the dog he tried to cage fight.
Date of intake:: 2/22/2025
Summary:: Hard barking and fixated on dogs
Date of initial:: 2/23/2025
Summary:: Wiggly for exam
ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Pimbon so we cannot be certain of their behavior in a home environment. However, they will need daily mental and physical activity to stay engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct their energy and enthusiasm.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only
Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner
Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to intense dog reactivity we recommend a home with no children. We recommend placement with a New Hope rescue partner who is able to provide an experienced, adult-only foster home. Force-free, reward based training and/or consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended.
Potential challenges: : On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration
Potential challenges comments:: On Leash Reactivity: Pimbon has been observed to fixate on other dogs while hard barking. During his stay in the care center Pimbon has been observed to intensely cage fight with the neighboring dogs. This behavior is not able to be redirected easily using treats. Pimbon will need positive reinforcement, reward based training to teach them to look at you rather than other dogs. We recommend a front clip harness to help manage this behavior. Please see handout on On Leash Reactivity and Barrier Frustration.
