Pre-Screener Form

Noodle is at risk due to behavioral concerns. Noodle was brought into the Care Center as a stray with limited history. Noodle was found by as a stray and initially bought home by the finder. In the home Noodle was involved with several bites. One bite occurred to another dog in the home during play, this did not break skin. The other two bites were to people in the home including the finder, one bite did break skin. Despite efforts to keep Noodle comfortable, Noodle has been showing fearful-defensive behaviors difficult to handle safely. Noodle has been difficult to leash, retreating in kennel, and at times thrashed once leashed. With a slow approach and select staff, Noodle has shown signs or warming up, allowing some contact. Medically, Noodle is apparently healthy.

Date of assessment:: 2/7/2026

Summary:: Noodle 246785 Noodle was brought to the care center due to a bite incident. The finder/victim found Noodle on the street, they took Noodle home where they have many other animals. Noodle began playfighting with one of the resident dogs, and then suddenly started attacking. The finder was able to break up the fight by yelling and no skin was broken. Later that morning the finder was laying with Noodle on the bed. When the finder moved Noodle began to growl, hard bark, and lunge at the finder’s stomach. Noodle bit them on the right hip. This bite broke skin and left several puncture wounds and bruising. The finder screamed at Noodle and he jumped off the bed. When Sandra’s son ran into the room to see the severity of the bite, Noodle jumped back on the bed and bit the son on their elbow. This bite did not break skin. During intake Noodle was observed to be fearful and was hiding under a chair. For his medical exam he allowed handling and pickup with a towel. Due to the multiple bite incidents, the behavior team does not feel that Noodle is a safe candidate for a handling assessment

Summary (6):: 2/7/26: Noodle is at the back of his kennel curled up on his kuranda bed. Handler baby talks him and offers a treat but he stays put. Handler opens the doors and tosses treats, which he takes. He is tentatively but easily leashed. He backs away with leash pressure and circles in his kennel. With slightly more leash pressure, he comes out of the kennel. Once outside he begins to whine immediately, likely due to the extreme cold. Walk is ended early due to the weather. Noodle returns to his kennel with ease.

Summary (7):: 02/07/26: Noodle is at the center of his kennel laying on his kuranda bed as handler approaches, handler attempts to coax him forward as they unlock the kennel door but he remains curled up on his bed. As the leash approaches Noodle retreats to the back of his kennel but is leashed nevertheless and removed from kennel and take to the yard for his walk. Outside Noodle whines and relieves himself quickly, after a short period of time outside he begins pulling back inside, likely due to the extreme cold temperature outside. He is then brought to the behavior office where he hides underneath the handlers desk. He is offered treats and investigates them but does not accept any. After a bit he begins jumping on handlers leg softly, allowing pickup and sitting on handlers lap. His heart beats fast in handlers arms but he quickly settles and begins relaxing and laying down in handler arms, accepting brief and gentle pets as well as laying his head in handlers arms. He is carried back to kennel and placed inside before interaction is ended. ER 2/7/26: Noodle is laying at the back of his kennel curled up. He moves further back into the corner while lip licking. He is not interested in treats. Interaction is ceased due to stress levels. 2/5/26 (PM Walk): Noodle is at the back of her kennel. The handler lassos the leash, and they secure it, Noodle thrashes her head around. She continues to thrash as the handler gently adds leash pressure for her to come to the front of her kennel. Noodle attempts to go to the other side of her kennel, but the handler use the leash tension to bring her to the front instead. Noodle then comes out of kennel and immediately goes to the closest corner of the room. The handler opens the room door as wide as possible and adds leash tension to guide Noodle towards the door. Once Noodle is close enough, she exits the room. The handler walks Noodle to the yard. There Noodle relieves herself. The handler speaks to her, but Noodle isn't receptive; she presents whale eyes throughout the walk. As the handler goes down the yard steps, Noodle stays at the top, refusing to climb down. The handler adds gentle leash pressure, but Noodle briefly thrashes, but slowly goes down the steps. Upon entry, the handler returns Noodle to her kennel and uses a hook to remove the leash. 2/4/26 (PM Walk): Noodle is at the back of her kennel. The handler softly lassos her, and when they add very light tension to the leash, Noodle thrashes their head. As the handle continues to gently add leash pressure to bring her to the front, Noodle thrashes her head around, and goes to the other side of her kennel while trying to bury herself in her linens. The handler stops adding leash tension and removes the leash off of Noodle with a hook, which she tolerates. The handler ends the interaction

Recommendations comments:: No Children: Due to handling sensitivity and Noodle's history of escalating to biting, we recommend an adult only home. Single-Pet Home and No Dog Parks: Noodle has a history of biting when other dogs attempt to play with him, we recommend a single pet home and no dog-parks. Place with New Hope Partner: Due to Noodle's multiple bite history, we recommend placement with and experienced New Hope Partner that can carefully manage his triggers and behavioral challenges.

Potential challenges: : Handling/touch sensitivity,Multiple-bite history/risk of future aggression,Bite history (human),Bite history (dog)

Potential challenges comments:: Handling Touch/Touch Sensitivity: Noodle has been noted to become uncomfortable with handling at times, especially when a person is trying to move him as reported in his bite history. It is important to always go slow and give Noodle the option to walk away from any social interaction. Noodle should never be forced to approach anything that he is uncomfortable with or to submit to petting or handling. It should always be Noodle’s choice to approach a new person or thing. Noodle may do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to her/his new surroundings Multiple-bite history/risk of future aggression: Escalating to biting is a behavior that Noodle has rehearsed repeatedly. He has also bitten both dogs and people. This behavior is likely to continue as it has become part of Noodle's repertoire, and will need careful management to work toward reducing triggers for Noodle and reducing the resulting bites. Please see hand-out on Bite History and Potential for Future Aggression.
