Animal Profile

Rosie

Hello, my name is Rosie. My animal id is #220179. I am a desexed female brown dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 4 years 3 months old.

I came into the shelter as a returns on 4/13/2025.

Rosie has been placed on the at-risk list for medical concerns. She has liver changes that are consistent with a hormonal imbalance like Cushing's disease or primary liver disease. She needs care and diagnostics that we cannot provide. Behaviorally, Rosie is highly social with people and enjoys interacting with anyone who engages with her. She is food motivated, enjoys walks/runs, and is very relaxed once back at home. Rosie can get over excited which leads to jumping but is easily redirected. Rosie has been seen giving clear signs when she is feeling overwhlem as well in situations such as showing her teeth. Rosie would thrive in a home who continues to engage with her with positive reinforcement training and a steady routine.

Visit me today to find out my favorite treats and how you can take me home! My foster writes: Rosie is the sweetest bouquet you'll ever cuddle! 🌹 This lovely lady is playful and energetic, full of personality, loving, curious, and always looking to brighten your day with tail wags and warm snuggles. We've never heard her bark! She's as quiet as she is charming, making her the perfect companion for cozy homes and calm vibes. Meet A Dozen Roses A.K.A Rosie for short! 🌹 This sweet three-year-old pup is as charming as her name! Found as a stray, Rosie has quickly won over the hearts of the shelter staff with her affectionate nature and love for snuggles. She's highly social, enjoys pets, and is eager to learn. She has no known reactivity to other dogs on leash, but since her history is a mystery, slow introductions to other pets are recommended. She's an energetic girl who thrives on daily exercise, training, and enrichment activities like food puzzles and hide-and-seek games. Rosie is still working on her manners-she sometimes jumps on people and counter-surfs-but with patience and positive reinforcement training, she'll blossom into the perfect companion. 🐾 Personality: Affectionate, playful, eager to learn 🏡 Ideal Home: A patient adopter who can provide training, structure, and daily activity Check out this adorable video of me on TikTok! Click here to experience the cuteness! My BB wrote: Adopt Rosie (ID:220179) This girly is everything you could possibly want in a companion pet. She is quick to love whoever she is with, gentle to take treats with a soft mouth and already knows "sit"! From the moment we met her she greeted us by jumping and giving us a near hug- so friendly! She was enthusiastic to walk and was wiggling all over the sidewalk. She loves toys and can be so silly. Though she wants to eat every morsel of food we come across, she was not hard to walk and her tail was wagging the entire time. She showed no reactivity to dogs on leash, either. There is nothing that could shake her happiness!! What makes her unique is she was equally as happy to sit next to us while we ate lunch without any complaints. She sat beside us patiently waiting for us to be finished. She gave little tippy taps before we gave her a treat because she was so excited! Her little snorts while she sniffs sound just like a little piggy and it is so endearing. When we stopped at a coffee shop, she even took a little nap after our long walk! She would be such a good companion for a family ready to open their heart to a sweet, happy and cuddly girl. She would be excited to go on a long walk with you but also down to chill out for a movie night and cuddle up next to you. She could be great for a studio apartment or a big house with a yard. Adopt Rosie, she is ready to come home with you today! My foster writes: Rosie is a sweet, high-energy, people-loving girl who thrives on attention and interaction. She is very food-motivated, which makes her eager to learn and responsive to training, and she already knows cues like sit, down, come, and "look at me." She loves running and would be a great match for an active home. She can get very excited on leash and tends to pull, but she is smart and improving with consistency. At home, she settles nicely after exercise and enjoys being close to her humans. Rosie is very affectionate and social, but due to her enthusiasm and excitement, she would do best with older children or supervised interactions with younger kids. She has never shown aggression, but she still needs guidance in managing her energy.

Summary:: 3/13/25: Rosie jumps up and down on the gate with a loose and wiggly body. She stops briefly to sniff the other dog with neutral body before resume jumping up and down on the gate.

Summary (1):: Rosie's fun facts from foster family: She is very food-motivated, which makes her eager to learn and responsive to training, and she already knows cues like sit, down, come, and “look at me.” Rosie loves to run and really enjoys being outdoors, including playing in the snow. After a walk, she becomes very calm and relaxed at home. She enjoys being close to her humans and will happily lie down next to you. She’s so calm in those moments that you can even use her as a little “pillow” while she rests with you.

Summary (5):: 5/8/26: Rosie is laying down waiting patiently as Handlers approach her kennel to bring her out on a walk. Rosie is easily leashed up and quickly taken out of kennel. Rosie is tethered as handlers clean her kennel. Once finished Rosie and handlers make way for outside. While in the hallway Rosie stops by med staff to have a quick greeting. Once finished Rosie quickly goes out the door to use the bathroom. Rosie has no tension on leash while outside and doesn't pay attention to anyone or thing. Rosie enjoys the fresh air and sniffing things on the ground till she is walked back to building. Rosie quietly enters the building with handlers and makes back to her kennel. Once by kennel Rosie quickly enters with no issues.

Summary (6):: Previous notes before leaving for ACC foster: A Dozen Roses A.K.A Rosie 05/11/25: A Dozen Roses is at the front of her kennel as handler approaches. She is distracted by treats and leashed before exiting kennel, once she reaches the hallway she is very jumpy, attempting to jump on staff and handler in a social manner. She jumps constantly on handler who holds a treat while attempting to ask her to sit, she becomes too distracted so handler hand feeds her the treat while clipping their leash to her harness. From here she is walked down the stairs and out to the street. Once outside Roses pulls moderately, she walks slightly in front of handler and passes people on the street without issue. When passing a dog on the street she shows minimal interest however handler precautionarily walks to the side into the street as the dog passes, Roses is distracted with treats. After walking for a bit she uses the bathroom, when making her way back to the shelter she continuously looks up at handler jumping occasionally seeking treats. She is brought back inside and clipped before returning to kennel without issue.

Summary (7):: 4/14/25- A Dozen roses is at the front of her kennel with a loose and wiggly body, jumping on the door as handler attempts to leash. Handler uses a treat lure and Dozen roses is leashed. She pulls hard when exiting the building and is taken for a street walk. She continues to pull hard throughout the walk, when handler stops walking she returns to handler and sits. She is rewarded with a treat and gently takes it from handler's hand. She then continues to pull hard ahead of handler, sniffing around. Handler pets her side and she leans into handler's legs. When returning to the building, MOPs are passing her. She pulls towards them wanting to greet. She is taken for her assessment where she is social with handlers and is easily collared. She explores the room and sniffs around. She occasionally jumps on the couch. She is easily leashed and returned to kennel without issues. 3/14/25: A Dozen Roses is at the front of her kennel as handler approaches. She is offered treats and leashed while distracted and is subsequently taken out of kennel. Roses pulls hard out the room and towards the elevator, she is difficult to focus with treats but after tossing some on the ground she is attentive to handler. She enters the elevator and jumps softly on handler before exiting to the backyard for some gate greets. Once in the yard she pulls towards the gate and quickly approaches the dog adjacent to her. Both briefly sniff and Roses displays a fast wagging tail and jumps up on the gate multiple times. Both dogs sniff each other through the gate and seperate, shortly after Roses is brought back inside. She pulls hard when re-entering her room and enters kennel without issue. 3/1/25- A Dozen Roses is at the front of her kennel with a soft body, she is easily leashed and when exiting she cage fights. She is taken for a street walk. She pulls hard ahead of handler, handler whistles to her and she comes to handler. She gently takes treats and will go back to pulling hard. Handler calls to her again and she comes back to take a treat. Handler keeps giving treats and she stays next to them. When thy cross the street she pulls and once across the street handler has come to their side again with continuously giving treats. She sniffs around and while walking back to the building she sees a dog. She stops and stares at them with a slight tense body with no vocalization. Handler presents a treat in front of her and she follows the handler. Handler pets her chest and she leans her head into their legs moving her back leg. She is easily clipped and returned to kennel without issue. 2/9/25: A Dozen Roses is laying at the front of the kennel when a handler approaches. She is easily leashed and taken for a street walk. Summary:: Loose wiggly, jumping up on handlers

ENERGY LEVEL:: Rosie is described as active and enthusiastic. They will need daily mental and physical activity to keep them engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct their energy and enthusiasm. We recommend feeding with puzzle feeders and food-dispensing toys. And we recommend using force-free, reward-based training techniques for Rosie.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: Level 2

Recommendations:: No young children (under 5)

Recommendations comments:: No young children (under 5): Due to lack of basic manners and handling sensitivity we recommend a homer with no young children.

Potential challenges: : House soiling,Destructive behavior,Basic manners/poor impulse control,Handling/touch sensitivity,Strength/leash pulling

Potential challenges comments:: House Soiling: Rosie previous owner states that she is partially house trained. Stating that she has a designated space in the home where she goes to the bathroom. We recommend positive reinforcement, reward-based training only. Accidents should never be punished as this will likely make the problem worse. Please see handout on House Soiling. Destructive Behavior: Rosie previous owner states that she is destructive in the home with items such as the couch and shoes. We are unaware of what, if any, attempts were made to remedy this behavior but we suggest to future adopters that Rosie will need to be provided with physical and mental stimulation and with a variety of appropriate and engaging chew toys so they can engage in necessary chewing behavior without damage to human objects. Please see handout on Destructive Behavior. Basic Manners/ Poor Impulse Control: Rosie has been observed in care to jump on handlers frequently and counter surfs on desks. It is recommended that default behaviors such as "Leave it", "Sit/Stay", "Down" are reinforced to substitute any frustration and teach her to control her impulses instead of simply reacting; proper management is also advised. Force-free, reward based training only is recommended. Please see handout on Basic Manners and Impulse Control. Handling Sensitivity: Rosie previous owner states that she will growl when pushed off the couch and other furniture. Rosie should never be forced to approach anything that they are uncomfortable with or to submit to petting or handling. It should always be Rosie choice to approach a new person or thing. Rosie may do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to their new surroundings. Please see handout on Handling and Touch Sensitivity. Leash Pulling: Rosie previous owner states that she pulls very hard while on leash. It is recommended that they be walked on a front clip harness or head halter, which will help diminish their strength through leverage, and that they be trained using positive reinforcement, reward based training to not pull on leash. Please see handout on Leash Manners.
