Other Notes:: Apollo will use the bathroom indoors on wee wee pads and outdoors on the street. Apollo will often jump up or jump nonstop. Apollo has destructive tendencies, such as chewing on cords, socks, shears, and tissue. Apollo isn't bothered when held/restrained, disturbed while sleeping, startled, pushed/pulled off furniture, his feet/paws are touched, or his collar is grabbed. During walks, Apollo will bark and growl at other dogs and small animals. Apollo does this to initiate play and will try to sneak and surprise other dogs.

Summary:: According to Apollo's previous owner(s), Apollo barks and is friendly and outgoing with other dogs. He is also noted to bark and growl at other dogs and small animals on walks to initiate play according to his previous owner. 7/21/26: Apollo is introduced to a fake dog due to his past dog meet. He is let into the yard and flags towards the fake dog with a high slow wagging tail and neutral body. He sniffs the fake dog and loosens with more mid level wags. He does some light nibbling/cobbing on the fake dog's ear and leg but ultimately disengages and approaches his handler. 7/18/26: Apollo is introduced to a novel intact male and approaches the fence with a forward leaning neutral body with hackles raised and a high wagging tail. He stands on the fence digging at it while growling and teeth chattering. He is pulled back and continues to fixate on the other dog and pull towards them. He approaches the fence again and once nose to nose he loosens slightly and gives mid level wags. When the other dog begins to initiate play, Apollo follows him through the fence and pushes his nose through the open crack and gives a few clack-ats before being pulled back. He continues to pull towards the other dog and fixate on him from a distance before he is returned to kennel.

Summary (6):: 7/21/26: Apollo is being walked by another handler when this handler approaches; the handler is able to place their leash on them while the other removes theirs. Apollo presents a soft body and walks with the handler into the pen for playgroup (see dog-dog notes). Before the interaction, the handler places Apollo on a dragline; he runs around and engages with the other handlers with a soft body; he also sits on command and takes treats with moderate pressure. Afterwards, another experienced handler brings Apollo inside and returns him to his kennel with ease. 7/18/26: Apollo is at the front of his kennel with a soft body, jumping on the kennel door. He is easily leashed and brought out the room. The handler brings Apollo to the yard; Apollo looks at the handler with soft eyes and allows pets. Apollo is brought for playgroup (see dog-dog notes); afterwards, the handler returns Apollo to his kennel. 7/17/26: Apollo is at the front of his kennel, hard barking and jumping on the kennel door when the handler approaches. He is easily redirected with treats, allowing the handler to leash him. Apollo follows a prepared treat trail on the ground, what helps keep him distracted while passing by neighboring dogs in the kennels without reactivity. Once outside, Apollo walks on a loose leash next to the handler with no pulling. When he sees another dog he will stare at them but is distracted with recall. Apollo has no reaction towards other people passerby. He readily accepts petting, takes treats gently, and follows commands “sit”. During the walk his body remains relaxed with slightly wagging tail. During return handler is able to pre-clip the leash and Apollo readily goes back into his kennel by his own. 7/10/26 (Trainer Note): Apollo was at front of kennel as trainer approaches. He is leashed with a lure and tentatively comes out of kennel with a neutral body. He walks quickly through the kennels and to the training room where he engages with a snuffle mat but remains uninterested in treats. He was affiliative with the trainer, soliciting pets and leaning into them. He remained uninterested in training or treats. He was returned to kennel with no issue. 07/09/26: Apollo is at the front of his kennel as handler approaches, he barks at handler and jumps at the door until he is distracted with treats and taken to the street for his walk. Outside Apollo walks with a neutral body and pulls forward mildly but generally remains near handler. He accepts treats and passes people without issue, he also stops to sniff spots on the street and to relieve himself throughout the walk. Apollo walks for a while uneventfully until he is brought back inside and returned to kennel following tossed treats.

Summary (7):: 7/8/26: Apollo is reported to be highly kennel reactive; when exiting kennel, he is able to reach a passing dog's kennel and bit their kennel bars. 7/3/26: Apollo is at the front of his kennel with soft body when handler approaches. He starts hard barking and jumping on the bars when handler attempts to unlock the kennel. He is leashed with a treat lure and, once he is out of the kennel, handler cues him to the treat trail on the floor; Apollo follows it and exiting the room without reactivity towards other dogs in neighboring kennels. Apollo pulls hard in the hallways all the way outside. He slows down in the driveway and starts pulling towards certain spots and eventually relieves himself. Apollo continues walking with moderate leash tension and pulls harder sometimes towards spots he wants to discover. When he sees another dog he hard stares at them but willingly walks away after handler's recall and gets rewarded with a treat. Apollo doesn't react towards other people passer by. He is social with handler, allows petting and gently takes treats. Sometimes he looks back at the handler for check-ins. His body remains loose with wagging tail. During return handler is able to pre-clip the leash and bring Apollo back into his kennel with ease. 6/26/26: Apollo is at the front of his kennel with a loose body. As the handler attempts to leash him, Apollo quickly retreats and jumps backwards; the handler presents a treat as a lure, and as he approaches to eat, they quickly leash it. On the street, Apollo walks ahead with moderate leash tension; he doesn't react to dogs or people. He is tolerate to the pets given by the handler. While walking to the office, Apollo gets startled when the dogs in room are barking. The handler brings him into the office for his assessment (see notes) Afterwards, the handler clips their leash and walks Apollo to his kennel, which he pulls hard to. 6/25/26: Apollo is noted to bark at a novel handler in the hallway. 6/24/26: Apollo is at the front of the kennel with a neutral body barking when the handler approaches. He is easily leashed and taken to the yard. He is receptive to treats and petting from handlers. When a dog walks by, Apollo begins to growl, hard bark, and lunge towards them. This behavior is not easily redirected. When returning to kennel the handler is able to clip their leash, and he is returned with no issue. 4/12/26: Apollo is observed to hard bark and lunge towards other dogs while in the yard.

Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to fearful behavior and on leash reactivity we recommend an adult only home. Recommend No Dog Parks: Due to the concerning behaviors that Apollo has shown during playgroup (see DOG-DOG SUMMARY), we feel that he should not visit dog parks. The Behavior Department recommends that he be socialized in a more controlled setting until his behavior towards other dogs can be further addressed. Reward-based, force-free training can be utilized to help Apollo associate dogs with things he enjoys like toys or treats.

Potential challenges comments:: House Soiling: Apollo is noted to be partially house train and will need positive reinforcement training to manage his behavior. Destructive behavior: Apollo is reported to be destructive, chewing on cords, socks, tissue and shears. Positives reinforcement and daily enrichment should be used to help manage his behavior. Please see the handout on Destructive Behavior. Basic manners/poor impulse control: Apollo is reported to jump up on people in a friendly manner. Positive reinforcement should be used to teach Apollo impulse control when he meets new people. Please see the handout on Basic manners/poor impulse control. Fearful: Apollo has been observed to fearful while in care. Noted to have a tense body and whale eye when handlers attempt to interact. They should never be forced to approach anything that they are uncomfortable with or submit to petting or handling. It should always be their choice to approach a new person or thing. Apollo would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to their new surroundings. Please see handout on Decompression Period. On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration: Apollo is noted to growl and bark at small animals and other dogs. While in care Apollo has been observed to hard bark and lunge towards other dogs while in the yard. It is stated he wants to play.
