Animal Profile

Simba

Hello, my name is Simba. My animal id is #249399. I am a desexed male brown tabby cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 7 years old.

I came into the shelter as a aco - owner surrender on 3/11/2026, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- cannot afford to care for.

Simba is on the at-risk list for medical reasons. She has diabetes and is not eating well in the shelter. She is losing weight and becoming more fragile. She needs care and attention that we cannot provide.

What my friends at ACC say about me: I have medical needs that staff will address with you when you meet me. The staff think I would do best in a home where there are no other cats. Cheek and chin scratches make me so happy! It could be with you! Click here to learn more about the adoption process!

He started having daily accidents and began urinating outside the box a few months ago once diagnosed with diabetes and his water intake increased. He urinated outside the litter box on the floor even with the litter being cleaned though it was scooped only when the box was full. The prior owner blocked soiled areas and changed the type of litter used for behavior modification.

Simba likes to play by chasing and pouncing on toys, fetching items (bottle caps or toys) and chasing bugs or moths. He received interactive playtime a few times a month. The previous owner's favorite things about the cat is that he is very sweet and great with kids. Behavior issues noted are that he has litter box accidents, can hide in fear and dislikes cats. Simba eats both wet and dry food of any brand and Temptations are his favorite treat.

ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Moderate

VOCAL:: Quiet

CHARACTER TYPE: : Shy ,Calm,Sweet,Affectionate,Lap Cat,Curious

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Inappropriate elimination,New home adjustment period

Potential challenges comments:: Simba's previous owner reports that he/she was eliminating (urinating) outside the litter box. Modification steps were taken to try and address this behavior including blocking soiled areas and changed the type of litter. Please note as well that Simba has been diagnosed with and is being treated for diabetes in the care center, which may likely be influencing the urination behavior. We recommend that potential adopters be comfortable with management and modification techniques for elimination outside the litter box should this behavior continue in a home environment. We also recommend that Simba be provided with numerous litter boxes throughout the house.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 2

RECOMMENDATIONS:: Single-pet home

Recommendations comments:: Due to know history, the behavior team recommends Simba to be the only cat in the home.

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Simba is laying on top of his den with a slightly tense face and dilated eyes, and forward ears. He sniffs scratcher tool and tolerates petting on his cheeks and along his body. The assessor talks to him softly and attempts petting with their hand. Simba softens immediately and leans in to cheek pets, closing his eyes. He is then coaxed to jump down off of his den and continues to allow all petting, his tail midway but slightly vibrating (happy). Simba allows a brief lift up and set down and continues to stay at the front appreciating attention. Simba interacts with the observer, solicits & appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. No known history of behavioral problems. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for cat parents with either an average amount of cat experience or demonstrate a basic understanding of typical cat behavior.
