Whiskey
Hello, my name is Whiskey. My animal id is #234334. I am a desexed male white dog at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 5 years 2 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a agency on 8/14/2025.

Pre-Screener FormWhiskey is on the at-risk list for behavior concerns. Whiskey in the care center has not been acclimating despite best efforts to keep him comfortable. Whiskey in the care center has began to growl, bare teeth and snarl in attempts to remove him from kennel at times but is slowly warming up once removed from kennel. During interactions, Whiskey appears anxious and will begin to mount staff as well. Medically, Whiskey has an ear infection.

Pre-Screener Form Whiskey is on the at-risk list for behavior concerns. Police arrived at the care center with Whiskey due to the dog sitter requesting pick up due to defensive behavior in the home. Whiskey owners where contacted and reported that Whiskey has a history of resource guarding, fearful/defensive behavior, and multiple bites. In his previous home, he was reported to guard food and growl or bark when approached, as well as show territorial behavior in cars. Whiskey has been noted to show fear-based reactivity during handling, especially when touched on sensitive areas such as his ears or feet, and has reacted defensively during grooming in his prior home. While friendly at times, he has also escalated to snapping, growling, and trembling when uncomfortable. Whiskey has a bite history that includes incidents with both a household member and another animal, though the bites were minor and preceded by warning signals. Whiskey owners noted that he loved plastic bone toys that make noises, he is affectionate and loves to give kisses, he loves to be where his people are, and knows "sit". In the care center, he has shown significant discomfort, including stiff body language, snarling, and baring teeth when leashing was attempted, as well as reactivity at the kennel door. Whiskey will benefit from placement with an experienced new hope partner prepared to manage his resource guarding, handling sensitivity, and reactivity through positive reinforcement, structured management, and decompression in a stable environment.
