I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 6/5/2026, with the surrender reason stated as other.

Pops Sanchez was reported to learn to walk politely on leash and passed other dogs with consistent work from trainer once in a steady environment. Medically, Pops Sanchez has dental disease but is otherwise healty.

He is reported to hard bark at unfamiliar people and dogs and hover over food with a tense body. While in care, he has hard barked, growled, and lunged at anyone who approaches the kennel or attempts to handle him. We recommend that Pop Sanchez be placed in an adult-only home through a New Hope rescue partner due to his intense responses to unfamiliar people. Pop Sanchez would benefit from placement with an experienced rescue partner that can provide a calm, structured environment and support his continued behavioral progress with the use of a certified professional trainer who utilizes positive reinforcement methods only.

Summary (7):: 6/20/26 (KSV): Pop Sanchez is at the front of his kennel, hard barking and jumping onto the door with a tense frame as the handler approaches. Some treats are tossed into the kennel which he will eat and then continue to jump on the door and hard bark at the handler. Previous stay at ACC: 1/30/25: Pop Sanchez is at the front of the kennel with a tense low body. Once seeing the handlers Pop Sanchez begins growling loudly. Handler speaks in a soft tone and Pop Sanchez begins baring teeth, hard barking, and muzzle punching the door. Handler tosses a treats, Pop Sanchez muzzle punches the kennel door again and is not receptive. Handler puts their hand near the kennel door and Pop Sanchez lunges forwards, hard barking, snarling, and muzzle punches the door again.
