Zuzu is at risk for behavior reasons. Zuzu is deteriorating in care. She is highly dog reactive and has potential to redirect when leaving the adoptions room. Recently she has become easily over aroused while in the yard and caused injury to her face and paws engaging with a large jolly ball. Meet Zuzu, a young and energetic gray dog who's as full of love as she is life! Zuzu is a true cuddle bug, always eager to snuggle up and shower you with affection after a day of play. Her vibrant energy and playful spirit make her a delightful companion for an active household. Zuzu would thrive in an adult only home where she can be the center of attention as the only pet. She's looking for a family that can match her zest for life and provide her with the love and care she deserves. If you're ready to welcome a fun-loving, snuggly, and loyal friend into your home, Zuzu is eagerly waiting to meet you! My #BoroughBreak Buddy Writes: She never barked. She loved to sniff, lie in the grass, and really just wanted to run. She was great in the back of the car, looking out the window and laying down. She sniffed around the yard and had fun with a small basketball (she popped it but that's okay). Eventually she lay down and had a little nap. At one point she saw a spider and watched it the whole time as it crawled in front of her face. On point with what was said about her before, she's very hype but once she's settled in she's calm and chill. She also enjoys pup cups.

Summary (6):: 08.25 Zuzu was offered a HVT and easily 7leashed pulling towards neighboring dogs while leaving DA. She was brought out into the yard and drag leash was attached. She explored the yard until and found a brook. He grabbed the broom and ran around the yard. Treats were thrown to attempt to have her drop it and she ignored. Another staff member came outside with sausages and she would drop the brook briefly to et them. She moved herself into the corner with the broom in her mouth. Staff member got a hold of her drag leash and was pulled away when broom was dropped. She was returned to her kennel. 8.22: Zuzu was out in the yard, and she became over aroused, running about searching the yard. She grabs a hold of a broom and will not let go. She carries the broom into the building and staff are able to distract her to release and remove it. 8.21: Zuzu was playing with the jolly ball and became highly fixated, running about the yard, bouncing it off of items and her face. She would run into tight areas, such as the space under the table and behind the garbage can. In her aroused state, she will redirect onto other items like the hose, rubber bowls. She would bite and shake the rubber bowls. She caused injury on her face and paws from the jolly ball.
Summary (7):: 8.21 Zuzu was at the front of her kennel when approached. She was easily roped but attempted to kennel fight when leaving the room. Zuzu was brought to a yard. In the yard Zuzu found a toy and played with it, running around and squeaking it. She would occasionally come when called but was more focused on the toy. She did approach the staff at one point, she climbed onto the bench and leaned into pets with a soft body before going back to her toy. 8.16 When approached Zuzu was at the front of her kennel. she was easily roped. When she was walked pass the other kennel where she attempted to kennel fight, towards the end of the room she redirected and attempted to bite at the staff members feet, she was not able to due to the staff member holding the leash taut. Once in the yard Zuzu had a loose body. She played with toys and leaned into pets. when returning her to the kennel she pulled towards the other dogs but did not redirect. 8/12: While out in the yard with a staff member, a second staff member entered the yard. Zuzu greets her exuberantly, jumping up and mouthing her hands and arms repeatedly. She grabs her leash and holds her away from her body until she calms down. She engages with toys tossed and takes treats gently. 8.07: ZUZU was patiently waiting, wagging her tail at the kennel door when staff arrived. She was easily leashed and taken into the small yard. When staff put the drag leash on she got the zoomies. She had some interest in playing with a ball or the soft toys in the yard. ZUZU also came up to staff, leaning against them for some pets. She was very friendly with staff in the yard but she did get a little jumpy/ mouthy for a minute. Otherwise ZUZU was good with staff and easily went back into her kennel.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: Level 4
Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Single-pet home,Recommend no dog parks
Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to a lack of basic manners and some social hyperarousal we recommend a home with no young children. Single-pet home: Due to reactivity seen in care, we recommend Zuzu be the only pet in the home. Recommend no dog parks: Zuzu is reactive towards other dogs and should not visit the dog park.
Potential challenges: : House soiling,Basic manners/poor impulse control,Social hyperarousal,Mouthiness/poor bite inhibition,On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration,Low threshold for arousal
Potential challenges comments:: Basic manners/poor impulse control: Zuzu lacks basic manners and impulse control. It is recommended that default behaviors such as "Leave it", "Sit/Stay", "Down" are reinforced to substitute any frustration and teach her to control her impulses instead of simply reacting; proper management is also advised. Force-free, reward-based training only is recommended. Please see handout on Basic Manners and Impulse Control. Social hyperarousal: Zuzu can become aroused when interacting with staff. She will be jumpy and mouthy. Positive reinforcement, force-free training should be used to teach Zuzu to remain calm when people and other exciting things are around. She should be rewarded with treats when calm. If she escalates to jumping or mouthing, people should immediately walk away from and separate themselves from Zuzu. Please see handout on Arousal. Mouthiness/poor bite inhibition: Zuzu can become mouthy when she is in an aroused state. She is also reported to take treats roughly. This should be replaced with an alternative behavior as it can frighten people. We recommend never playing with bare hands – always with a toy - and ending play or attention whenever Zuzu puts teeth on skin. She should be rewarded with attention and treats when she stops and/or when she is seeking attention in alternate ways. Please see handout on Mouthiness and Poor Bite Inhibition. On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration: Zuzu is reactive to other dogs on leash. Zuzu may need positive reinforcement, reward-based training to teach him to look at you rather than other dogs. We recommend a front clip harness or head halter to help manage this behavior. Please see handout on On-Leash Reactivity. Low threshold for arousal: Zuzu has become easily aroused with play in the yard. She will redirect her attention onto other objects such as the rubber bowls or on one occasion a broom. She carried the broom into the building with her when this happened. Any adopter must be able to manage her arousal properly to avoid incident. Please see handout on Arousal.
