Silvester
Hello, my name is Silvester. My animal id is #246865. I am a male gray cat at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 6 years old.
I came into the shelter as a stray on 2/4/2026.
Silvester is FIV+, severely anemic, and has severe dental disease. He came to us in rough shape and is underweight, but has been eating very well in care. He will eventually need a dental procedure with extractions when his anemia improves. Behaviorally, he leans into petting and is social, but resists/vocalizes during some medical handling (ie. blood draw).

Behaviorally, he leans into petting and is social, but resists/vocalizes during some medical handling (ie. blood draw). Meet Silvester! Silvester was found as a friendly stray who would confidently walk up and greet people, even strangers, out on the street. Since arriving in our care he has continued to show a very docile, social personality and seems to truly enjoy human attention and companionship. My Ideal Home Silvester would do best in a patient home that can provide routine care, comfort, and support while he continues to feel better physically. A calm environment where he can receive affection, gentle handling, and ongoing medical follow-up - especially dental care - will help him thrive. Silvester tolerates attention and petting but appears fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents. Good with Kids? Unknown history. Based on his friendly and docile behavior with people, respectful older children who understand gentle handling may be a good fit. Good with Other Pets? No known history living with other animals. Slow, proper introductions to resident pets are recommended. FIV-positive cats can live with other cats in the right home and management setup. Overall Health FIV positive. Mild dehydration on intake with dental and oral disease present. Arrived underweight with a rough haircoat and in need of grooming. Will likely require dental treatment and extractions after placement. Behavior Determination Adopter comfortable with ongoing medical needs recommended. Silvester is very friendly and easy to handle but will benefit from a home prepared to manage his dental care and FIV status. Other Fun Facts Silvester is known for approaching people confidently and greeting new friends right away. He has a gentle, docile demeanor and enjoys human interaction, making him a sweet companion who seeks out attention.

Your newly adopted pet has been diagnosed with being UNDERWEIGHT and the staff veterinarians are issuing a TEMPORARY waiver from the spay/neuter requirements of the City of NY. Follow up care at your regular veterinarian is recommended to ensure continued treatment through to the resolution of the issue. At the time of a full recovery you may choose to have your veterinarian perform the spay/neuter surgery, or make provisions to return the pet to ACC for sterilization.
