Hello, my name is Queen Hera. My animal id is #262264. I am a female white dog at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 6 years 1 months 1 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a agency on 8/12/2026.
Queen Hera is on the at-risk list due to behavior concerns. In the care center, Queen Hera has shown significant kennel stress, including jumping and slamming her body against the kennel while vocalizing, heavy panting, dilated pupils, excessive salivation, chewing and licking the kennel lock, and consistently chewing her bed. She has also been reported to growl at other dogs in the hallway. Outside of her kennel, Queen Hera is social with handlers, seeks petting, engages well in training, and is generally easy to leash and return to kennel. Medically, Queen Hera has dental disease and dermatitis.

Medically, Queen Hera has dental disease and dermatitis. What my friends at ACC say about me: My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! It is unknown if I have ever lived with other animals or children. I would do best in a home with only adult humans. I need a home where there are no other dogs. I will flourish in a calm environment and a low-traffic home. I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. A volunteer writes: When you look past her dirty coat, the fly bites on her ears and the scabs throughout her body you'll see one of the sweetest girls currently in the shelter. Queen Hera may need some TLC, but she will return it all with the affection she exudes. I imagine Queen Hera is the type of dog who will celebrate all your wins with you, happily make moves wherever you go and be your biggest cheerleader. But more importantly, she is the type of dog that will be there for your less cheery moments, the kind that may cause you to cry into her fur and hold her tight and somehow she'll know just how to make you feel better. She's managed to already do that for us, a girl who knows what to do no matter the situation. And she is so deserving of someone who will return that to her! Queen Hera was found tied to a pole with another dog (King Zeus #262263 ) by police and were brought to the shelter. Queen Hera was noted to be friendly, but Zeus was very fearful. Due to her initial fearfulness when entering the shelter and some handling sensitivity, she is available to a Level 3 (experienced) home.

LHL lameness reported Brief exam - Intermittent grade 3/4 lameness LHL - no overt heat / pain / swelling, interdigital area clear. Lateral paw pad had small white foreign material stuck to it with small indent but no wound underlying. After removal P continued with the same degree of lameness. DVM Behavioral Medication Consultation S/O/A: -Behavior concerns noted with significant anxiety/hyperarousal in the shelter environment, including heavy panting and hypersalivation. -Wt 60 lbs (27.2 kg). -Currently receiving Trazodone 300 mg PO BID (~11 mg/kg/dose) + Clonidine 0.6 mg PO BID (~0.022 mg/kg/dose) since 9/10. -Hx limping/lameness. P: -Continue Trazodone 300 mg PO BID (~11 mg/kg/dose). -Continue Clonidine 0.6 mg PO BID (~0.022 mg/kg/dose). -Start Gabapentin 600 mg PO BID (~22 mg/kg/dose) indefinitely. Summary:: Due to entering the facility as a stray, there is limited dog-dog history noted. Queen Hera came in with a male LMB. 08/16/26 Queen Hera is introduced to a novel male while off leash. She approached the gate with a neutral frame, sniffing the male before disengaging.
Summary (6):: 09/16/26 (Trainer Note): Queen Hera is at the front of her kennel as the handler approaches. Her eyes are red and her pupils are dilated. The glass of Queen Hera's kennel is coated in saliva. She is easily leashed and pulls moderately to the canine training room. The handler works with her on the 123 game, touch, and the yes verbal marker. She engages readily, but pants heavily for the duration of the interaction. She is easily leashed and returned to kennel without issue. 9/16/26: Queen Hera was noted to jump up and slam her body against the kennel while vocalizing.
Summary (7):: 09/08/2026 (Trainer Note): Queen Hera is laying down in the back of her kennel with a neutral body as handler approaches. She comes to the front and is easily leashed to be taken to the community room for a training session. She is loose with handler, often curving inward and leaning in for pets. She sniffs around the room but will return to handler when called over. Handler plays the popcorn game, and Queen Hera is engaged. Handler moves on to working on 123, touch, and TAB, Queen Hera is able to focus intermittently as she often begins to sniff around. She is able to remain focused when using higher value treats. She is returned to her kennel without issue. 08/18/26 (Trainer Note): Queen Hera is observed to be chewing and licking at the kennel lock. 08/16/26(PG Note): Queen Hera is standing at the front of her kennel with a loose and wiggly body and allows handler to leash her with ease. She is then brought to the play yard to meet a male playmate. Once inside the yard, a drag leash is placed on her, and she roams freely while socializing with handlers. When her playmate arrives, he does not allow handlers to place a drag leash on him and displays fearful behaviors. Queen Hera approaches the gate for a nose-to-nose greeting and displays a loose and wiggly body while wagging her tail. She is then brought back to her kennel because her playmate is not ready to interact. For more information, see Dog to Dog Assessment. 8/13/26: Queen Hera is reported to growl when seeing other dogs in the hallway 8/13/26 (Assessment): Queen Hera was at the front of her kennel with a neutral body where she was easily leashed and taken to the behavior room for an assessment (Please see assessment notes for details). She did not see any people or dogs while walking through the hallway. She walked next to handler with a slack leash. When she passed thru the meet & greet room when the dogs on crates barked at her she froze and dropped a little to the ground but quickly recovered and continued on her way. During her assessment she was social with the handlers. She was returned to her kennel with no issue.

Potential challenges comments:: Handling/touch sensitivity/Fearful: Queen Hera has been noted to become uncomfortable with handling at times, especially when a person is reaching over her. It is important to always go slow and give Queen Hera the option to walk away from any social interaction. Queen Hera should never be forced to approach anything that she is uncomfortable with or to submit to petting or handling. It should always be Queen Hera’s choice to approach a new person or thing. Queen Hera may do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to her new surroundings. On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration: Queen Hera was reported to growl when seeing other dogs on leash on a walk with staff.
