This pet needs emergency placement. Please click here to go to our emergency placement page for more information. Gretel is on emergency placement for behavioral reasons, having displayed increase in leash biting (jumping up, tugging, and mouthing the leash) which has made it more difficult for staff to handle. Medically, she is apparently healthy. Here's what my friends at ACC say: About me: Due to arrival as a stray, Gretel's history is a mystery. In the care center she has displayed as a social, exuberant, and energetic dog. Potential challenges: Gretel would benefit from positive reinforcement training to work on basic manners, impulse control, and jumping up. She has been observed to jump up and tug her leash and would succeed best if redirected to alternate behaviors, toys, treats, and positive reinforcement. My ideal home is: An experienced home that can provide Gretel with the stimulation and positive reinforcement training needed. A staff member writes: Imagine a delicious trail of treats leading sweet Gretel all the way home! Yes, this is a bit different from the fairy tale where she gets her namesake, but also the version of the story that we'd love to see! The shelter is an overstimulating place for some pups and Gretel is ready to find her way into a home instead! Gretel is a social, energetic dog that would love to come home and practice some basic training with you! Maybe even sneak in a trip to the pet boutique or two so she can pick out some fun puzzle toys? Gretel is a fun girl with lots of light to shine and love to give.

Both Hansel and Gretel were very social during intake - and highly treat motivated. They were exploring the office and jumping up on staff when excited. They both allowed all handling (collaring, scanning, photographing) - and went into kennels without incident. Hansel allowed staff to pick him up and place him in a top kennel.
