Siri is on the at-risk list due to behavior. He is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when Approached for interactions. He has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to his stress levels, it is in his best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. He would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give him plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers.

Let's get to know each other a bit more...

What my friends at ACC say about me: I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace. I prefer to call the shots and enjoy coming to you when I'm ready for pets. I love to be loved, but on my own terms! Let's brush up on some feline body language together! It could be with you! Click here to learn more about the adoption process! A volunteer writes: Siri's a thoughtful guy who wants to know how to find a family, so he did as we do his namesake and asked. He got a little more information, strategies and examples, but it wasn't quite the step by step guide Siri had hoped for. It seems that making friends depends on a bunch of moving parts though confidence and a smile can do wonders. Oh, dear, and what if you're not in a position for that at the moment? Maybe just wait for someone else to make the first move? I saw Siri snuggled up in his cubby behind his blanket and offered my hand. He politely sniffed before turning his face to the side. Siri benefits from a calm approach and eventually was softly nuzzling his head into my hand, but still can feel a little unsure at times with the daily hustle and bustle of the Care Center. He was brought to us with other cats when their person could no longer care for them and while he's not one to hang out at the front or ask to be friends, he's certainly one to take the time to meet.

Behavior Condition: 3. Yellow

KNOWN HISTORY:: Siri was brought in without information on his behavior history in a home environment.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 5/20/25 Vol. Sitting in loaf position in back of kennel. Got some slow blinks after some sweet talk. No interest in Churus or cat dancer. Closed his eyes during head scratching with tool. 5/25/25 Vol. Siri was curled up, head down, in his litter box. I put squeeze-up in tray in the cubby, and he didn’t show any interested. He tolerated petting, but I think he might have been feigning sleep so that I would leave him alone. 5/28/25 Vol. Siri was curled up at back of cubby, with tail tucked around body. He sniffed at treats but did not eat. He watched a feather toy briefly but did not engage in play. He tolerated gentle petting on his head, remaining in place with a tense body. 6/10/25 FB26 He was resting inside the cubby, alert with neutral eyes. He allowed petting along his head and body using the scratcher tool and remained immobile throughout the interaction. Ignored offered treats. 6/11/25 Vol. Siri tried to swat at another volunteer without much warning. PRIOR ASSESSMENT 5/12/25 Siri is a somewhat fearful cat who was inside the den with sideways ears and dilated pupils, and mostly avoided eye contact with the assessor. He did not sniff treats but allowed petting on a body that was somewhat soft. He remained in place and shrank from touch but is a sweet cat. Prior assessment 6/13/25 Siri has deteriorated a bit since his last assessment and appears at first to be a sweet if shy cat. He sniffed treats and then partially came out of the cubby for a treat trail but did not come all the way out. When re-approached in the cubby, he once again sniffed the treats and began to eat them, but when the assessor went to pet him, after one quick but gentle pet, he hissed and attempted to swat. Once the kennel door was shut, he came fully out under the shelf to eat the remaining treats. 7/25/25 Vol 1 - Siri was going in and out of the hidey box as I approached and read report. Eyes and ears normal - staying close to box entry, He was sitting my front of cage erect and eyes round when put in treat bowl - he sniffed and turn to run back into box. Stood and sweet talked - he came out and went back in. Sweet talked some more and ended interaction 2 - Came back a little while later. He was in box, could see side of face. Sweet talked and he pulled back. Put in Feliway square and added to untouched treat bowl. He stuck head out to watch, ears forward, eyes wide but pupils normal. Approached with scratcher tool, he pulled back into box, just able to see side. Let tool rest and removed. Came back a minute later and Siri was out investigating the Feliway square. He went back into box and while I stood there, came back out to stretch paws to bar and then climb to top of box. Ended interaction. *Enrichment Notes continued in GAN*

ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Mellow

VOCAL:: Quiet

CHARACTER TYPE: : Shy ,Timid,Independent

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful,Other,New home adjustment period,Adult cat socialization

Potential challenges comments:: Bite/scratch history: ACS staff was working in the cat adoption room. He went to remove a food tray out of Siri's kennel, and then Siri struck out and scratched staff on the inside of the left ring finger.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 3

RECOMMENDATIONS:: Adult only home

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Siri was resting in the den upon approach, alert with neutral eyes and ears erect and forward. He allowed petting along the head and body with the scratcher tool through the portal door and remained immobile throughout the assessment. Treats were offered, and the session was ended to reduce stress. Siri tolerates some attention and petting but appears fearful and defensive in the shelter. While he engaged for treats and showed some sweetness, he also attempted to swat when touched. He may need time and space to adjust to a new home and is best suited for experienced cat parents who can read feline body language and provide a calm, low-pressure environment.
