Animal Profile

Gosu

Hello, my name is Gosu. My animal id is #240089. I am a male brown dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 8 years 1 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a agency on 10/25/2025.

Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.

Pre-Screener Form

Gosu is at risk due to behavioral concerns. Gosu arrived at the Care Center as a stray with no known history. Upon intake, Gosu was noted to be treat motivated and entered kennel without issue. Despite efforts to keep him comfortable, Gosu is showing concerning signs of deterioration and low threshold for arousal making it difficult to handle Gosu safely. Gosu was observed biting his front left paw in kennel, resulting in a wound. Additionally, when attempting to take him out of kennel Gosu quickly escalated to thrashing and lunging toward handlers with an open mouth. Medically, Gosu has a wound from chewing on his paw, and is noted to be underweight.

Initially, he was easy to leash when offered treats, but over time, he began thrashing and lunging at staff during walks. In the kennel, Gosu will take treats. He is highly fearful and would do best in an adult-only home through a New Hope Partner that can address his behavior using positive reinforcement.

ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Gosu so we cannot be certain of their behavior in a home environment. However, they will need daily mental and physical activity to stay engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct their energy and enthusiasm.

Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to the Behaviors seen in the Care Centers, Gosu should not go to a home with adults. Place with a New Hope partner: Gosu should go to a New Hope Partner that can manage his behavior.
