KNOWN HISTORY:: Rocky was brought in with limited information on his behavior history in a home environment. Hide initially with visitors Bite or Scratch history: Yes - right hand scratch, when attempting to place Rocky in an enclosure to bring in. The client self-treated at home. Litter box training: yes Other notes: Trims their nails: Never done Brushes their coat: Struggles or squirms Picks up or holds them: Enjoys Places them in a carrier: Stress meows Rocky is friendly, affectionate and an indoor cat. They spent their tie in the living room and they play gently. They had interactive playtime once a day. They enjoy wood surfaces. Rocky enjoys both dry and wet food and they are described as a calm cat who loves treats.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 7/11/26 FB09 Rocky was crouched in his den and hissed when the door opened. He watched the handler with dilated eyes and his tail wrapped around his legs. The handler offered him treats on the click stick and he cautiously sniffed them before low growling and licking his lips. He lunged at the den door when the handler pulled the click sick back. The interaction was ended to reduce FAS. 7/19/26 Vol. Resting in den but poked head out the portal when approached. Returned a blink with sweet talk, but also low growled. Hissed when tool approached. Took a good sniff of a cup of Temptations and squeeze-up, but didn't eat. Ignored treats when dropped into den and continued looking out the portal and grumbling. When offered a toy ball on the tool, swatted at it, but then leaned out further to sniff. Had not eaten breakfast or medicine with tuna. Sniffed scratcher tool one more time, but pulled head into den before petting was attempted. 8/6/26 FB09 Rocky was crouched on top of his den with dilated eyes and began growling when the handler approached. He sniffed the treats offered to him on the scratcher tool and began licking his lips while slowly backing up. When petting was attempted, he allowed a few pets on his head with the click stick while growling and eventually maneuvered out of the way and raised a paw. The interaction was ended to reduce FAS.

Potential challenges comments:: Rocky has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and has displayed distance-increasing behavior with extended handling. Fear aggression can occur when a cat perceives a threat and may escalate if they cannot escape. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus. Prior owner stated that Rocky does not like being placed into a carrier. On 6/22/26 when attempting to place Rocky in a carrier for transport to the shelter, Rocky scratched their right arm while attempting to resist going into the carrier. BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: 7/6/26 Rocky is laying inside of his den as the assessor approaches, eyes wide, pupils dilated, and body tense. When attempting to open the kennel door, Rocky pokes his head out of the portal exit, staring hard at the assessor and beginning to low growl. Treats are gently tossed into the kennel, but he does not respond to them, continuing to low growl. When the den door is touched to attempt interaction, Rocky hisses, lunges, and swats hard at the door. The assessor gives him a moment to settle and speaks softly to him, and after a couple of minutes he settles a bit, sitting upright towards the back of the den. The scratcher tool is slowly wedged under the den door and Rocky hesitantly leans forward to sniff it. He is tolerant of petting on the head and cheeks with the tool, leaning in slightly when pet on the cheeks for a moment before backing away and low growling again. The assessor is able to slowly retract the scratcher tool without issue. When the assessor goes to place the den cover back on, Rocky again lunges and swats hard at the den door. 7/21/26 Rocky is inside of his den with his head poking out slightly, forward ears and dilated eyes. Handler speaks softly to him and he hisses and begins low grumbling. The handler slowly extends a scratcher tool with squeeze up on it, and he swats it hard. Handler waits for him to calm and slowly removes the tool, leaving him with a tray of squeeze up that hopefully he enjoys later. Rocky tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
