Animal Profile

Brock

Hello, my name is Brock. My animal id is #175474. I am a male brown brindle dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 7 years 10 months old.

I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 4/16/2025, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- landlord won't allow.

Brock has been placed on the at-risk list for medical reasons. We has a very large bladder stone that has been present for years, and he has developed pneumonia further delaying his surgical treatment. His appetite is low and he has lost weight. He needs care and attention that we cannot provide.

I don't always like to share my food, toys or bedding with other animals. I would do best in a home without very tiny humans, although I could be open to older human children once I meet them. I love getting pets and - you guessed it - snuggles!

Recommendations comments:: No young children (under 5): Due to resource guarding and mouthie behavior we recommend a home with no young children.

Potential challenges: : Resource guarding,Mouthiness/poor bite inhibition

Potential challenges comments:: Resource Guarding: Brock finds food, treats, and bones valuable to him. When those items are in his presence, he will tense and hover over the items. We recommend that Brock be left alone while eating, and that food guarding behavior modification steps (available at ASPCApro.org) be utilized if this behavior is problematic in their future home. Nothing should ever be taken directly out of Brock's mouth, and any time something is removed they should be rewarded with a high value treat or toy. Please see handout on Resource Guarding. Mouthiness: Brock has been observed to take treats with pressure. We recommend giving treats with a flat hand and to use force-free, reward-based training methods to teach Brock to take treats with a softer mouth. Please see handout on Mouthiness.
