Animal Profile

Yuri

Hello, my name is Yuri. My animal id is #237653. I am a male black cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 3 years 1 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a aco - impound on 9/25/2025.

Yuri needs at risk placement for medical reasons. He is a young adult cat with a poor appetite and jaw fractures due to high rise trauma. He loves cheek and head rubs and needs continued pain management in a lower stress environment like a veterinary clinic.

Let's get to know each other a bit more...

This pet needs emergency placement. Please click here to go to our emergency placement page for more information. Yuri needs at risk placement for medical reasons. What my friends at ACC say about me: My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! It is unknown if I have ever lived with other animals or children. I have medical needs that staff will address with you when you meet me. Cheek and chin scratches make me so happy! I am a cat that is in need of a lap! I can't wait to be your new lap cat. I am finding the shelter a little overwhelming, but when it's just you and me and some peace and quiet you'll see what a love bug I am.

Details on my behavior are...

Behavior Condition: 3. Yellow

KNOWN HISTORY:: Yuri was brought in as a stray, there is no known information on his behavior history in a home environment.

ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Mellow

VOCAL:: Quiet

CHARACTER TYPE: : Shy ,Calm,Sweet,Curious,Timid

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Other,New home adjustment period

Potential challenges comments:: Please note that this cat is being treated for a medical condition at the time of evaluation. It is difficult to determine at this time how the medical condition may be affecting the behavior. For example, he may be somewhat uncomfortable with handling at this time due to his injury.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 2

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Yuri was lying down resting in loaf position at the front of the kennel with his head down and eyes closed. When pet on the head, he slowly wakes up, raises his head, and head bunts for petting. He leans in hard and purrs for cheek rubs. When stroking his body, he tenses up and steps back. When reaching around his body and attempting to gently lift him up, he steps further back and turns his body away. He continues to appreciate more petting on the head and cheek rubs at the end of the interaction. Yuri interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for cat parents with either an average amount of cat experience and demonstrate a basic understanding of typical cat behavior who can accommodate his medical needs.
