Sushi Wushi
Hello, my name is Sushi Wushi. My animal id is #213823. I am a male tabby cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 5 years 2 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a stray on 11/4/2024.
Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.
Pre-Screener FormSushi Wushi is on the At Risk list due to behavior. He is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. He has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to his stress levels, it is in his best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. He would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give him plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers.
Let's get to know each other a bit more...

What my friends at ACC say about me: My favorite pastime is being visually admired! Pet me with your eyes! Sushi Wushi was inside his den when approached, appearing alert with wide eyes. When the assessor attempted to pet through the side portal, Sushi Wushi responded by striking and hissing. He then slowly retreated and stiffened in place. The assessment was ended early to reduce his stress, indicating that he was feeling threatened or overwhelmed. A volunteer writes: Care Center life isn't for everyone, but thankfully it's just one stop on the way to a much brighter one. Sushi Wushi was brought to us after being found in an apartment building. His person had passed away and Sushi Wushi was trying his best on his own. Sushi Wushi was brought to us and while we don't know much about his likes and dislikes in the home, we're pretty sure one of his biggest dislikes at the moment is the Care Center. Tucked away in his den in his efforts to remove himself from the everyday hustle and bustle, Sushi Wushi tries to stay comfortable. He's very alert and wants to stay aware of his surroundings. Sushi Wushi's had a lot of big changes and while we can only guess, we try our best to make sure Sushi Wushi knows he's loved. He hasn't been a fan of pets though. In fact, they make him want to retreat even further. Sometimes it takes time to find your stride and we know that Sushi Wushi will find his soon.

The assessment was ended early to reduce his stress, indicating that he was feeling frightened or overwhelmed. Sushi Wushi is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. He is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
