Summary:: *5/18/25* Tiger is brought into the assessment room again and remains tense and fearful. When the handler approached he treats back and shows whale eye. The handler offers a squeeze up treat and spray cheese, he is not receptive to either. When the handler approaches with the treats Tiger moves away from the handler very quickly and pulls towards the door. Due to the high levels of fear, stress, and anxiety displayed. Tiger is not a candidate to receive a handling assessment at this time. *5/15/25* When brought into the assessment room Tiger remained tense and fearful. Observed to have a tense body and maintained his distance from the handler. When approached Tiger shows whale eye and retreats from the handler quickly. Summary:: 5/31/25: Tiger greets another dog at the gate with a soft body and wagging tail. He play bows and is bouncy.

Summary (6):: 6/1/25 (late entry)- ACS reported when attempting to leash Tiger he retreated and low growled at them. 6/1/25: It was noted on the whiteboard that Tiger is kennel fighting at a high intensity and is kennel reactive to the point where he is tense and stiff and is difficult to keep away from the passing kennels. 5/31/25: Tiger is standing at the front of his kennel as handler approaches. He then lets out one bark when the handler is unlocking the door. He is able to be leashed while being distracted with treats. He then begins to pull hard and bark at the dogs in kennels with a tense body while being taken to the yard for play group. In the yard, he greeted the other dog at the gate with a loose body frame and did not react at all. Please see dog to dog notes for more details. He tries to pulls towards the dog in kennels on the way back to his kennel and entered with no issues.

Summary (7):: 5/23/25: Tiger is laying at the back of his kennel when handler approaches. A treat is tossed to him but he just sniffs it and does not eat it. Handler is allowed to lean in and place the leash on him. Once the leash is secured he comes out of kennel and pulls towards the other dogs in their kennels. He returns to kennel without issue. 5/18/25: Tiger is outside on a walk with another handler when handler approaches. He would walk slowly outside with the handler. He would baulk to the ground when he got nervous of heavy wind and sounds. He was able to be transferred to the new handler's leash and taken to the behavior room for his assessment. In the room, he had a tense body frame and wouldn't take treats. He was avoidant of the handler trying to collar him and would back away while also seeking exit. His assessment was not able to be completed. He is taken back to his kennel with no issues. 5/18/25: Tiger is observed to hard bark and quickly retreat towards back of kennel with a tense body as handler walks past his kennel. He does not come forward for treats 5/15/25(Late Entry): When an assessment was attempted Tiger had a tense body and would maintain his distance from the handler. When approached Tiger would show whale eye. 5/15/25 (Late Entry): Tiger is laying down with a neutral body in the back left corner of his corner as handler approaches. He whale eyes up when handler opens the door, and begins to retreat backwards ass handler attempts to leash. He dodges the leash a couple times but does not escalate. Handler is able to lasso him and remove him from kennel with light leash pressure. Tiger is taken to the street for a walk. He remains uninterested in handler and keeps his distance from handler. He displays fearful behavior throughout walk, leaning away, crouching low body, whale eyes, and trembling. This behavior continues as he is taken to the behavior room for an assessment. He is returned to kennel without issue.

Date of initial:: 5/14/2025

ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Tiger so we cannot be certain of their behavior in a home environment. However, they will need daily mental and physical activity to stay engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct their energy and enthusiasm.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only

Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner

Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to fearful behavior we recommend an experienced adult only home. We recommend placement with a New Hope rescue partner who is able to provide an experienced, adult-only foster home. Force-free, reward based training and/or consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended.

Potential challenges: : Fearful

Potential challenges comments:: Fearful: Tiger has been observed to be highly fearful during his stay in the care center. Noted to have tense body and shows whale eye. It is important to always go slow and give Tiger the option to walk away from any social interaction. They should never be forced to approach anything that they are uncomfortable with or submit to petting or handling. It should always be their choice to approach a new person or thing. Tiger would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to their new surroundings. Please see handout on Decompression Period.
