Remi
Hello, my name is Remi. My animal id is #258706. I am a desexed female unknown (update later) cat at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 6 years 1 months 2 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 7/2/2026, with the surrender reason stated as animal behavior - aggressive towards people.
Remi is on the At Risk list due to behavior. She is not thriving in the care center and continues to display challenging behavior during interactions. She is extremely intelligent and high energy, and needs to expend energy constructively with interactive play sessions 3-4X/day. In addition to playtime, this cat would also benefit from mental exercise from activities such as puzzle toys/games, lick mats, or clicker training. Without providing activity for her mind and body, the cat may react with rough play, potentially resulting in bite/scratch incidents. It is in her best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. She would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give her plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with feline body language, overstimulation, rough play, and who have the time to invest in managing these behaviors on a consistent basis to avoid further bite/scratch incidents.
Let's get to know each other a bit more...
What my friends at ACC say about me: I would do best in a home with only adult humans. I love to be loved, but on my own terms! Let's brush up on some feline body language together!

She has only ever bitten 1 person. Sometimes the biting is provoked by being held or pet too long. In those cases, Remi makes it clear she no longer wants to be engaged, at which point the owner completely disengages. Remi will stay offensive and attack right after the incident. Other times, the biting seems completely unprovoked and unpredictable. Remi will enter a room she was not previously in and bite the owner. The most recent incident, which was the deepest bite yet, occurred after we had both been gone for most of the day visiting family. The family we were visiting has cats that spray, though we did not notice any scent on us coming home. Being with other cats or being away most of the day has never been a pattern in the attacks. Truly, they seem largely offensive and unpredictable. In tandem with a vet's advice, the Purina calming supplements, strategic toys, and pheromone diffusers have helped reduce the frequency of biting but not eliminate it.

How often the cat got interactive playtime: Other / Otro Additional info: Initially, we were playing with her often (multiple times a day). There had been times in the past when Remi seemed to want interactive play, but quickly redirected her energy from the toys to biting. Loves laser pointer. This cat likes to scratch on: Rough rope / Cuerda rugosa, Cardboard / Carton, Carpet/Fabric / Alfombra/Tela, Vertical surface / Superficie vertical, Horizontal surface / Superficie horizontal Previous owner's favorite things about the cat: Her gorgeous big eyes!! Her adorable habit of suckling her favorite blankets to "self-soothe"!! Her strange way of standing on her hind legs to get a better view out the window. She spends most of her time by the window, and loves when they are open (at the SPCA, before us, they had to keep her near a window). Every morning she comes and sits on our chest and purrs/cuddles before it's time for breakfast (she hardly ever bites in the morning). She greets us at the door when we come home. She rubs up against legs when she's ready for attention. When she purrs a lot, she drools. When the owner came home, Remi would want to be picked up and held, and would drool all over the owner's work clothes (this habit stopped once there were two people in the house). She always wants to be in the same room as people. We say she is "one of the girls" and is always very curious and aware of what the humans in the space are doing. She finds cozy spots everywhere! Loves to be in cardboard boxes and milk crates and paper bags and under the covers and in hampers of clothes and suitcases!! She loves to watch Cat TV, seeing squirrels, birds, and wildlife run by. We think this is the same reason she loves the windows. Both help redirect her aggression; she was an indoor-outdoor cat. We think this could help a lot with her behavior, and that she could thrive somewhere with an outdoor area. Behavior issues noted: Bites people / Muerde a la gente, Nips/swats when pet for too long / Mordisquea o le pega cuando lo acaricias por mucho tiempo Additional info: Not reported Type of food the cat eats: Both wet and dry food / Comida mojada y comida seca Brands of food: Shredded Friskies (wet). Blue Buffalo Adult Chicken (dry). Purina Calming Supplement (powder). Favorite treats: Temptations treats! Dehydrated chicken on a stick! Temptations lickable spoons!

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 7/8/26 FB47 Although the pre-exam room is hectic Remi comes to the front of the kennel as I greet her. I open the door and she accepts light touch with the clicker tool. She accepts light touch on her face with my hand. Her body is a little stiff so I do not attempt body pets. She enjoys being spoken to looking at me with a soft face and relaxed body. She eats some dry and push up treats from a tray. 7/9/26 FB58 Sitting loafed in her litter box with a neutral face and body, ears forward - she stands when treats are offered and eats, allowing pets along her back with the scratcher tool, tail initially rainbow. She appears to be wary of head pets at the beginning, and I begin with the soft scratcher tool before moving on to the metal tool. She moves back to her litter box and I continue to pet with the metal tool, she seems more comfortable with head pets and she begins to lean into cheek pets! She cones back to the front when I offer more treats and walks with her tail now raised high and shows a softer face and body as she continues to accept back pets as well as lean into cheek pets. 7/11/26 FB47 Remi comes to the front of her kennel meowing as I greet her. She eats the push up treat as I hold it. She is very aware of her surroundings in the exam room looking around nervously with wide eyes. Due to her nervousness I do not attempt to pet using my hands but she does enjoy the scratcher too. 7/12/26 FB47 Remi is at the front of her kennel waiting and purring. She tries to push her way out as I open the door giving a light meow. She leans into my hands for face pets. I hold her face in my hands as I rub her neck and ears. She closes her eyes and kneads into the base of the kennel with one of her front paws. She accepts body pets with a tool without getting overstimulated so I switch to using my hand. I pet her for about 40 seconds before her tail starts twitching. I stop and offer her a few more face pets and some temptations ending the session 7/16/26 FB58 At the front of her cage with a neutral face and body, ears forward and tail raised and soliciting interaction. She sniffs my hand when I open the cubby and allows some pets with my hand, tilting her head into the touch before pulling back and eating treats in the cubby with her tail raised. When I open the cage door, she comes over and is curious about the room - she continues to eat treats and leans her cheek into some pets before she leans out of the cage. She jumps out of the cage but I am able to pick her up and place her back in the cage where she continues to allow more pets before she does eventually raise a paw and I stop petting. 7/27/26 FB79 Inside of her cubby, Remi sleeps peacefully and she looks up slowly when i greeted her; she had no reaction to me and when i brought the tool in she tolerated pets on her head and cheeks as she started to slow blink. I think she was a sleepy girl today and had no reaction when i pet her back or body. Continued in GAN
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Moderate
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Social,Affectionate,Playful,People oriented,Curious
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Pet-induced aggression,Overstimulation,Other,New home adjustment period
Potential challenges comments:: Remi has a consistent bite history since being adopted a year ago after her previous owners passing. Initially Remi solicits petting and attention, but after a few passes over the body she begins to swat and attempt to bite the assessor. Remi was also noted to show these behaviors in her previous home. This may be a sign of petting-induced aggression, where repeated physical contact results in discomfort for the cat, or it may be a sign of overstimulation. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Remi becomes reactive. Treats should be used to reward appropriate responses to physical attention.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 3
RECOMMENDATIONS:: Adult only home
Recommendations comments:: Due to Remi's bite/scratch history and her behavior during evaluation, we recommend an adult only home.
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: 07/05/26 Upon approach, Remi is sitting toward the back of the kennel with wide eyes and her tail wrapped around her body. She walks toward the assessor, curious, however flinches and moves away from any attempts to touch her. She is given treats and after a few moments, she eats some squeeze up. She allows gentle petting her head while she eats the squeeze up. She slowly warms up to the assessor, allowing touch along her back as well and closing her eyes, appreciating the attention. Her body remains tense and she freezes every few moments, focusing her attention on something outside of the kennel, then relaxes when re-focused to the assessor. She raises her rear into a few strokes along her back. When the assessor touches her belly, her tail begins to flick and she moves away. When the assessor reaches to let her sniff their hand, she swats and attempts to bite. The assessor is able to move away in time without being scratched or bitten. She remains at the back of the kennel with a hard stare, crouching her body low to the ground. No pick up is attempted at this time. Remi tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center and her reported history in a home, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home. 08/05/26 Remi is laying in her side cubby. When the assessor approaches, she stands and enters the main area of the kennel. As the assessor gets ready to open the door, she rubs her head and body against it. Remi greets the assessor with gentle headbutts and purrs as they enter the kennel. Her body is loose with a high tail, forward ears, and a relaxed face. She allows head and neck pets leaning in. When the assessor begins to pet along her body, she tenses slightly. The fur at the base of her tail and along her spine start to slightly stand on end. She redirects the assessor back to giving her head pets. When the assessor touches her stomach lightly with a tool, she quickly snaps her head back towards the tool. She turns back to the assessor her body remaining slightly tense. The fur on the base of her tail and along her spine is now standing fully on end. No pick up is attempted at this time. Due to prior owner history (see separate notes) of a bite/scratch history as well as behavior observed in the Care Center, we feel that Remi will do best in an experienced cat parent home.
