Date of assessment:: 5/28/2025
Summary:: During his stay in the care center Bradley has been observed to be highly fearful. Noted to bark and lunge at handlers during intake and bare teeth towards handlers while in kennel. Due to the high levels of fear, stress, and anxiety observed Bradley is not a candidate for a handling assessment at this time.
Summary:: 5/28/25: Bradley greets another dog at the gate with a forward tense body and high tense tail.
Summary (7):: 05/28/25: Bradley is at the front of his kennel as handler approaches. He is offered treats slowly but does not accept them, he is tense as he stares at handler and lip licks. As handler slowly unlocks the kennel door Bradley stands up and allows leashing, he is taken to the street for his walk. Bradley slowly creeps down the halls with a tense and slightly hunched posture, he stops when seeing people pass and attempts to sniff medical staff sitting by the computers that he passes. After a bit he continues forward and walks with handler outside, he sees a dog when exiting the driveway but doesn't pay it any mind. Bradley crosses the street with handler and finds a scent he likes, he stays there for a long time sniffing, refusing to walk forward. He fixates on noises and things moving in his direction, after a bit handler attempts to walk forward but Bradley begins fixating on some low hanging tree branches and tenses up with his eyes opened very wide. Handler attempts to walk the other direction but Bradley finds another scent that he again begins fixating on. He uses the bathroom and handler begins bringing Bradley back inside, he stops at the enterance of the driveway when he sees two staff members beginning to enter behind him. He fixates on them and the staff members step back slightly and allow Bradley to continue forward before continuing inside. Bradley walks back to his room before again baulking at the front door, after being given a moment he continues forward until secured in kennel and returned. 5/26/25: Bradley is at the back of kennel with a neutral body and whale eyeing as handler approaches. He comes forward using baby voice to coax. He hold his head low and allows leashing. He briefly baulks, handler crouches down and taps on the floor lightly. He hops down and is taken to the yard for a walk. He remains tense in the yard, not interested in handler, and keeping his distance. He sniffs around, relieves himself, and is brought back to kennel without issue. 05/23/25: In kennel, Bradley is observed to sit near the front with a tense body. He whale eyes when staff pass the kennel and begins low growling. ACS reported that Bradley will lip curl and bear teeth when attempting to place food in his feed slot.

Potential challenges: : Resource guarding,Destructive behavior,Basic manners/poor impulse control,Handling/touch sensitivity,Fearful/potential for defensive aggression,Separation anxiety,On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration,Leash-biting,Strength/leash pulling
Potential challenges comments:: Resource Guarding: Bradley's previous owner states that he will universally guard items such as treats, food, water bowl, and toys. He will become tense, hover, growl, hard bark, and snap if people attempt to take the item. For this reason, we advise against ever removing items from Bradley's possession without safely trading for an item of greater or equal value. Guidance from a professional trainer is highly recommended to aid in safely managing this behavior in a new home environment. Please see handout on Resource Guarding. Destructive Behavior: Bradley's previous owner states that he is destructive in the home. Bradley will need to be provided with physical and mental stimulation and with a variety of appropriate and engaging chew toys so they can engage in necessary chewing behavior without damage to human objects. Please see handout on Destructive Behavior. Basic Manners: Bradley's previous owner states that he will jump up nonstop on people. It is recommended that default behaviors such as "Sit" and "Off" are reinforced to substitute any frustration and teach them to control their impulses instead of simply reacting; proper management is also advised. Force-free, reward-based training only is recommended. Please see handout on Basic Manners. Handling Sensitivity: Bradley's previous owner states that he will bark, growl and lunge when held/restrained, disturbed while sleeping, startled, pushed off furniture, when paws are touched, and when collar is grabbed. Positive reinforcement, reward based training should be used to pair touch with good things such as food rewards in order to teach Bradley to be more comfortable with this. Please see handout on Handling and Touch Sensitivity. Fearful Defensive: Bradley's previous owner states that he is fearful of loud noises. Bradley has been observed to be fearful during his stay. Noted to bark and lunge towards handlers during intake. In kennel Bradley has been observed to lip curl and bare teeth. It is important to move slowly with Bradley, to build positive associations (treats/toys/praise), and to allow them to initiate interactions with new people. They should never be forced to greet or to interact if they are not comfortable and soliciting attention. Please see handout on Fearful and Defensive Aggression. Separation Anxiety: Bradley's previous owner states that he will become anxious when left alone. Please see handout on Separation Anxiety. On Leash Reactivity: Bradley's previous owner states that he will hard bark, growl, and lunge towards strangers, cats, dogs, bikes and other items with wheels. Please see handout on On Leash Reactivity and Barrier Frustration. Leash Biting: Bradley's previous owner states that he will jump up and bite and chew on the leash during walks. Please see handout on Leash Manners. Leash Pulling: Bradley's previous owner states that he will pull very hard while on leash. Please see handout on Leash Manners.
