Summary:: According to Billy Bob's previous owner(s), Billy is shy and prefers contact on his terms, and may be friendly and outgoing with other dogs. 7/7/26: Billy is introduced to a novel neutered male and approaches the fence with wide eyes, a tense body, and mid-high level wags. He gives toe taps and follows the other dog through the fence continuously sniffing. He stood taller with time forward leaning. The other dog gave a hard bark and Billy play bowed in response. The other dog retreated and the interaction was ended. Billy is then introduced to a novel spayed female and approaches the fence with a neutral-tense body, high wagging tail, following her around the fence and doing toe taps. When face to face, he stood tall and was fixated on the other dog as she sniffed around the yard and did not approach at first. He did some whining and chuffing before she noticed him and came over. He pushed his ears back and had a tense forward frame. They did some play bowing and he became overaroused, doing chin overs, attempting to mount and force the other dog down. He did not respond to her increasing discomfort and continued to pursue her. He was pulled away and was fixating on the other dog, whining and chuffing before being returned to kennel.

Summary (6):: 8/2/26: It is reported that Billy Bob is throwing his body against the transfer door and is persistently finger painting while in kennel. It is also noted that he needs cheese or treats to be leashed. 8/1/26: It is noted on the behavior board that Billy Bob is digging at the transfer door. 7/30/26: On the whiteboard, Billy Bob is noted to be very well behaved. 7/30/26: Billy Bob is at the front of his kennel with a soft body; he eats a treat fed by the handler and they leash him with ease. The handler brings Billy out and walks him outdoor. Billy walks with mild leash tension, mostly sniffing the area around him. He allows pets from the handler, leaning into them as he does. Upon entry, the handler clips their leash and returns Billy Bob to his kennel. 7/25/26 (AM): Billy Bob is at the front of his kennel with a loose body; the handler lures him with a treat and he is easily leashed and brought out the kennel. On the street, Billy walks with mild leash tension; he doesn't react to dogs or people. Billy also engages with the handler, allowing pets. Upon entry, the handler clips their leash and returns Billy to his kennel. 7/25/26: It is noted on the behavior board that Billy Bob is refusing to walk. 7/24/26: Billy Bob was at front of kennel with a tense body as handler approached. As handler out leash into kennel Billy Bob grabbed it and started to tug. Handler used a treat lure and was able to leash him with little difficulty. He was taken for a street walk. While on his walk Billy Bob had a neutral body and walked slightly ahead of handler with very light leash pressure. He was returned to kennel with no issue.

Summary (7):: 7/23/26: Billy Bob is at the front of his kennel with a neutral body when handler approaches. Handler offers a treat and he takes it with hard pressure. Handler uses a treat lure and is able to put the leash on and take Billy out of the kennel. Billy walks next to the handler in the hallways without interest to other staff members or dogs in pop-up crates. Once outside he pulls towards certain spots to sniff and eventually relieves himself. Billy continues walking next to the handler on the loose leash with no tension. He doesn't react towards other dogs or people passerby. His body remains loose and he is social with handler (allows petting, responses when called and follows command 'sit'). During return handler is able to pre-clip the leash and bring Billy Bob back into the kennel with no further issues. 7/22/26: Billy Bob is at the front of his kennel with a neutral body, widened eyes and persistently barking. As handler attempts to leash him, he would quickly grab the leash and begin to tug on it. Handler uses a squeaker toy and treats to redirect him, which doesn't work. A familiar handler then approaches with high value treats, and he quickly takes the treats and he is then leashed. Once leashed, he begins to chew on the rope while in kennel. Once he exits the kennel, he is then taken out for a street walk where he would walk on a loose leash. Billy would pull much harder towards spots he was interested in sniffing. Throughout the walk, he would remain aloof and occasionally check in. He relieves himself in multiple spots and is then clipped and returned back to his kennel with no further issues. 7/15/26: It was noted on the whiteboard that Billy Bob is "very good, very chill, no pulling, no reactivity" 07/13/26: Billy Bob is at the front of his crate as handler approaches, he is soft bodied and allows leashing without issue before exiting kennel and pulling forward out to the street for his walk. Outside Billy continues to pull forward mildly and walks slightly in front of handler. He passes people on the street without issue and shows no reaction to seeing dogs from afar. He walks around with handler for a while uneventfully before eventually being brought back inside. He is returned to his crate with a tossed treat and interaction is ended. 7/5/26 (Assessment): Billy Bob was at front of kennel with a neutral body as handler approached. He was easily leashed and pulled from kennel. While on walk he maintained a neutral body and pulled moderately. When he saw a dog he tensed, ears went back, he dropped lower to ground and pulled hard towards dog. Handler was able to distract using a squeaky toy and continue on walk. Billy Bob was taken to the behavior room for his assessment (Please see assessment notes for details) where he was social with handlers. He was returned to kennel with no issue.

ENERGY LEVEL:: Billy Bob is described as active and enthusiastic. They will need daily mental and physical activity to keep them engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in addition to physical exercise, to positively direct their energy and enthusiasm. We recommend feeding with puzzle feeders and food-dispensing toys. And we recommend using force-free, reward-based training techniques for Billy Bob.

Potential challenges comments:: Fearful: Billy's previous owner states that he is fearful od loud noises and when being held/restrianed. During his assessment Billy would move away from the handler when they began contact. They should never be forced to approach anything that they are uncomfortable with or submit to petting or handling. It should always be their choice to approach a new person or thing. Billy would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to their new surroundings. Please see handout on Decompression Period. On Leash Reactivity: When Billy Bob saw another dog, he became tense with low body, pinned ears, tucked tail, and began pulling hard towards them. He is easy to redirect using squeaky sounds. Billy will need positive reinforcement, reward based training to teach them to look at you rather than other dogs. We recommend a front clip harness to help manage this behavior. Please see handout on On Leash Reactivity and Barrier Frustration. Leash Pulling: Billy's previous owner states that he pulls hard while on leash. It is recommended that they be walked on a front clip harness or head halter, which will help diminish their strength through leverage, and that they be trained using positive reinforcement, reward based training to not pull on leash.
