Animal Profile

Pecan Pie

Hello, my name is Pecan Pie. My animal id is #241978. I am a male white dog at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 8 years old.

I came into the shelter as a stray on 11/18/2025.

Pecan Pie is at risk due to medical reasons. Pecan Pie is a sweet senior dog with severe pyoderma. He is currently on oral antibiotics and steroids but would benefit from regular bathing and topical treatments to ease his discomfort, which unfortunately is not something we can manage in the shelter. He is very friendly and allows all medical handling. Pecan Pie just needs continued veterinary care and TLC to improve his current skin condition and will require ongoing treatment for suspected underlying allergies.

Let's get to know each other a bit more...

What my friends at ACC say about me: My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! It is unknown if I have ever lived with other animals or children. I have medical needs that staff will address with you when you meet me. I am playful and cute!

It is the policy of ACC not to perform surgery on any animal over the age of 8-10 years due to the higher risks incurred in a shelter setting. The veterinarian is hereby issuing a permanent spay/neuter waiver, from the spay/neuter requirements of the City of NY due to the estimated age of this animal. ACC does recommend you consult with your veterinarian to determine if surgical sterilization is appropriate.

Summary (7):: 11/21/25: Pecan Pie is going through multiple health issues which may affect his behavior. On that note, he is a very sweet senior that allows all handling, including the spreading of ointment on open sores. He especially likes walks and when it's time, his tail wags and he is quick to be leashed. On our walk, he ignores passing dogs and people, concentrating on sniffing and doing his business.

Potential challenges: : Handling/touch sensitivity

Potential challenges comments:: Handling/touch sensitivity: Pecan Pie exhibits handling and touch sensitivity, becoming noticeably stiff and uncomfortable when petted. This behavior may be influenced by his current medical condition, Pyoderma, which can cause skin irritation and discomfort. Extra care should be taken during interactions to minimize stress and avoid exacerbating his sensitivity. Please see the handout on Handling/touch sensitivity.
