The bite did not require immediate medical attention, but the officer did go to the hospital after bringing Witty Aisy to the care center.
Date of assessment:: 11/5/2026
Summary:: Witty Aisy has been observed to be highly fearful while in care. Noted to dodge the leash and growl when handlers approach to leash her. Once out of kennel, Witty is noted to have a tense body and tucked tail. Due to the high levels of fear, stress, and anxiety, Witty is not a candidate for a handling assessment at this time.
Summary (5):: 11/4/26 - Witty Aisy is vocalizing with a high pitch bark and pawing at the door, using a treat lure she was easily leashed and when exiting she has a tense body jumping on her hind legs to other dogs in kennels and crates high pitch barking. Handler keeps a tight leash and tossing treats but she isn't responsive to them nor toys, handler is able to take her to the yard but she constantly seeks exit to go back into the building and tense not responsive to treats. When returning back to kennel she is pulling to crates and kennels jumping on her hind legs again, handler is able to return her back to kennel but she does pull strongly to the kennels on the way back. 11/3/26 (PM): During the evening walk, Witty walks on her hind legs while vocalizing as they walk to the yard. She allows pets from the handler, as well as relieves herself. After a few minutes, Witty frantically pulls back to go into the building. As another dog enters the yard, Witty pulls frantically to look at the dog; as they are at the bottom of the steps, Witty is frantically runs up and down the stairs to find the dog; the handler shortens the leash and brings her inside. Witty walks on her hind legs as she enters the building; she looks at the dog in the kennel next to hers, so the handler muscles her into her kennel. 11/3/26: Witty Aisy is observed to high pitch vocalize in her kennel when the room is active. 11/02/26: Witty Aisy is at the front of her kennel as handler approaches, she is leashed easily while distracted with treats and is taken to the yard for her walk. She is very exuberant and pulls hard out to the yard with a forward posture, outside Witty paces around the yard sniffing around and relieving herself along the way. She is walked for a while uneventfully and when seeing dogs from afar will become exuberant and pull toward their direction frantically. She is moved further away and spends time in the back play yard, she is eventually brought back inside and returns to kennel following tossed treats.
Summary (6):: 10/31/26: Witty Aisy is reported to avoid and growl at the leash when the handler attempts to bring her out. 10/28/26: Witty Aisy approaches the front of her kennel with a loose, wiggly body as the handler approaches; she continues as the handler speaks to her with a soft voice. As the handler attempts to leash her, she dodges the leash a few times. Once the leash is on her, the handler brings Witty out of the kennel and brings her to the yard. After she relieves herself, the handler sits down; Witty approaches them with a wiggly body and jumps on their lap, soliciting and allowing pets. Witty doesn't react to other handlers or dogs. After she jumps down, Witty pulls towards the pen door. The handler clips their leash and brings Witty inside; she is returned to her kennel with ease. 10/27/26: Witty Aisy is at the front of her kennel with a tense body and tucked tail, she stares at handler who unlocks the kennel door and introduces the leash to kennel, placing it down for Witty to sniff, she refuses so handler begins reaching into kennel to leash her. She moves away and head whips when the leash first makes contact with her but she does not escalate and allows leashing after a few attempts, she remains tense and stares at handler but exits kennel and walks with handler out to the driveway. Along the way Witty will look back at handler nervously but follows handler around the driveway, she sniffs the gate exiting to the street but is kept in the driveway by handler, she stares at people passing with dogs but walks with handler and briefly sniffs around. Witty walks with handler for a while, her tail untucks as the walk progresses and she sniffs around for a bit more before handler begins returning her to kennel. She returns without issue and she is tossed treats which she accepts in the front of kennel. 10/26/26 (LATE ENTRY) - Witty Aisy is at the front of her kennel with a tense body and pinned back ears visibly nervous, handler speaks to her in a soft voice and crouches down giving her treats, she gives a low tail wag, handler goes slow with opening the kennel door and leashing her and she hesitates to exit but does with patience. She is jumpy with the sound of the barking dogs as she exits the hall and is taken to the backyard into one of the play pens with a tucked tail and hypervigilant, handler takes her into the play yard where she sniffs around and relieves herself, she slowly explores the area and body slowly relaxes but not fully, handler leaves her alone to sniff around the yard, handler does talk to her times with a soft voice and does give her treats which she does take hesitantly in the yard. When returning back to kennel she is slow to return and gets visibly stressed in the hall when returning back to kennel and hearing the barking, she is fine with unleashing and returned fine.
Summary (7):: 10/25/25: Whitty Aisy is at the back of her kennel when handler approaches. She starts vocalizing and lifting her front left paw. Handler starts talking to her with soft voice and tosses some treats. Whitty is not moving remaining frozen at the same position. Handler leaves for a minute to bring more high-value (chicken). When hander returns to her kennel they noticed that Whitty came closer and ate the treats tossed before. Handler offers chicken and she slowly comes close and gently accepts it. Handler is able to slowly open the door and put the leash on. Whitty exits the kennel and walks through the room with low body. Once in the yard she slowly enters the pen and starts sniffing around before relieving herself. She is panting and salivating. Whitty is frequently scanning her surroundings and briefly responds to handler's recall. She has no reaction to any stimuli outside. She tolerates petting but does not approach or seek attention herself. Her tail is tucked and she constantly lifting her front paws. After some time handler clips the leash and brings Whitty Aisy back into her kennel with ease. 10/24/26 - Witty Aisy is at the middle of the kennel when handler approaches, she is laying down and whale-eyeing, handler tosses treats through door, she doesn't take them, handler opts for higher value treats (cheese), she takes them hesitantly through the door. When handler opens door and talks to her in a soft voice she gives a low tail wag and approaches kennel with a low body, when handler tries to leash her she dodges the leash and retreats further back into the kennel, ears pinned back and whale-eyeing, tense body, lips curled a bit and lifted her front paw. She would then re-approach the kennel door again slowly with a low timid body and when handler attempts to leash up she retreats back again with pinned ears and and moving her head away, handler attempts a few more times but due to her increasing stress decided to end interaction especially since its her first day in shelter.

ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Witty Aisy so we cannot be certain of their behavior in a home environment. However, they will need daily mental and physical activity to stay engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in addition to physical exercise, to positively direct their energy and enthusiasm.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only
Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner
Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to fearful behavior and bite history, we recommend an adult only home. We recommend placement with a New Hope rescue partner who is able to provide an experienced, adult-only foster home. Force-free, reward based training and/or consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended.
Potential challenges: : Fearful/potential for defensive aggression,On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration,Bite history (human)
Potential challenges comments:: Fearful Defensive: Witty has been observed to have a tense body and tucked tail. In kennel Witty will dodge the leash and growl when handlers are attempting to leash her. It is important to move slowly with Witty, to build positive associations (treats/toys/praise), and to allow them to initiate interactions with new people. They should never be forced to greet or to interact if they are not comfortable and soliciting attention. Please see handout on Fearful and Defensive Aggression. Bite History (Human): Please see bite history above for more details. Please see handout on Bite History and Potential for Future Aggression. On Leash Reactivity: Witty has been observed to pull frantically towards other dogs while on leash. This behavior is not easily redirected. In a closed yard Witty will begin to seek exit and pull back into the building. Witty will need positive reinforcement, reward based training to teach them to look at you rather than other dogs. We recommend a front clip harness to help manage this behavior. Please see handout on On Leash Reactivity and Barrier Frustration.
