Apollo
Hello, my name is Apollo. My animal id is #218444. I am a male brown dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 1 years 8 months old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 8/30/2025, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- landlord won't allow.
Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.
Pre-Screener FormApollo is at risk due to behavioral concerns. Apollo was brought back to the Care Center as an owner surrender due to a change in living situation. During his previous stay, he was brought in due to a bite incident that occurred to another dog while walking on the street. Since returning to the Care Center, Apollo has been noted to be reactive to dogs with tense body and hard staring. Apollo has allowed easy leashing for walks, allowed petting, and is social with staff. Apollo's most recent owner notes that Apollo is initially shy and prefers contact on his own terms when meeting new people but warms up quickly. Medically, Apollo is apparently healthy.

Apollo's previous owner reported that he got loose, bit another dog, and would not release until the other dog's owner physically intervened. He was also noted to guard food, with hard barking and growling. While in the care center, Apollo has displayed a stiff body, hard stares toward other dogs, and low receptivity to treats. With handlers, he has generally been social and will take treats, though he has at times fixed them with intense stares. Based on these observations, we recommend placement through a New Hope partner in an experienced, adult-only home, with no trips to dog parks.
