Ten-Ten
Hello, my name is Ten-Ten. My animal id is #239983. I am a desexed female tabby cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 14 years 2 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a stray on 10/23/2025.
Ten-Ten has been placed on the At Risk list for medical reasons. She has not been eating well and remains underweight. She is FIV+ and this has caused chronic gum and dental issues. She needs care and attention that we cannot provide.

This pet needs emergency placement. Please click here to go to our emergency placement page for more information. Ten-Ten has been placed on the At Risk list for medical reasons. She has not been eating well and remains underweight. She is FIV+ and this has caused chronic gum and dental issues. She needs care and attention that we cannot provide. What my friends at ACC say about me: My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! I'm sensitive and shy. I'll need extra help from you. I will flourish in a calm environment and a low-traffic home. I am FIV+ and am enjoying a healthy, full life! Ten-Ten is a shy cat who tolerates attention and petting but appears fearful or stressed in the shelter. She may be a little more independent and may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents. Due to the behavior shown, she may not be a great fit for young children. Ten-Ten has made nice improvement since his first assessment and was lying quietly on top of the den. He sniffed treats and initially pulled back slightly from being petted on the head, but when approached a second time from the side, he allowed and then enjoyed cheek rubs, leaning in gently. This time he also allowed petting on top of his head, and when the assessor withdrew, he began eating the treats. Ten-Ten interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. We recommend that she go to a home with some cat experience preferred and be well counseled in a cat who needs new home adjustment. A volunteer writes: Ten-Ten was left outside the shelter in a carrier, so we can't blame her for coming in a little confused and unsure. However, Ten-Ten does the best with what she has and sometimes that's a cozy blanket and her own curiosity. While it may not sound like much, we welcome her resourcefulness. Since Ten-Ten was sleeping with her back to me, I offered some treats and prepared to go on my way. She's been determined to figure out where she can fit in the larger picture, so Ten-Ten picked her head up to ask me some questions cat-style. While Ten-Ten isn't one to make a big splashy entrance, she gently leans into pets. She'd love to find a family who will welcome an FIV+ senior lady such as herself, but isn't sure what it is she needs to do to find that. Maybe you could help point her in the right direction?

Behavior Condition: 3. Yellow
KNOWN HISTORY:: Ten-Ten was brought in as a stray; there is no known information on her behavior history in a home environment.
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 10/27/25 FB47 Ten Ten was on top of the den, laying quietly with eyes, partly closed the peeing fairly calm. She ignored treats, and when pet on the head, she gave a single his. After the door was shut, she licked the treats. 10/29/25 Vol. Ten ten was resting in loaf position on top of den with her eyes mostly closed. She did not react when offered squeeze up. She tolerated gentle petting on her head, leaning in slightly for rubs on her cheeks and between her eyes. Her behavior was very subdued. 10/31/25 Vol. On top of hidey box sleeping - she barely opened eyes when opened door to put in treat bowl on top of box - she ignored. Approached with scratcher tool - she allowed head scratches, turning head but ears normal. Allowed scratches but no reaction when stopped. Gave scratches and ended interaction. 11/2/25 FB32 Curled up hiding in den with head tucked in and tail wrapped around body. Allows petting on the head and remains calm. When stroking her body, she harshly hisses and lowers her head to focus on the assessor. She ignores treats offered and continues to tolerate more petting on the head. 11/3/25 FB47 Ten Ten was hunched on top of the den in the loaf position and, while slightly hand-shy, did allow gentle petting around the head while sniffing treats. He also sniffed catnip but didn’t seem to react to it and was otherwise quiet and a little bit subdued. 11/5/25 Vol. Ten ten was resting in loaf position on top of den with her eyes mostly closed. With some coaxing, she ate squeeze up from hand without getting up. She became more enthusiastic about the squeeze up, leaning forward to eat more. Her eyes and ears were neutral, and her posture remained slightly tense. She turned away to avoid petting. 11/7/25 Vol On top of hidey box, looked up when I came to cage - eyes 1/2 closed. Put treat bowl on top of box, she ignored it. Approached with scratcher tool, she allowed head scratches - sat up, turned around, yawned - and allowed head scratches to continue. Gave plenty of scratches, she kept eyes closed, even when stopped - just stayed still as if expecting more. Gave plenty more and removed tool - ended interaction. Ten-Ten looked up with 1/2 opened eyes. 11/8/25 Immobile inside the den. Ignores offered treats. Tolerant with the interaction, allowing pets along the head with the scratcher tool. Needs time to acclimate. ~~ GAN
